It seems Battlefield: Hardline won't be continuing its cops-and-robbers spree any further than next year, with EA CFO Blake Jorgensen announcing during the 2014 UBS Global Technology Conference that 2016 will see Battlefield return to the military roots of its long-running series (via GameSpot).

This upcoming Battlefield release, which was announced last month, is shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield," said Jorgensen. "That will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game; more to come on that."

Battlefield: Hardline is EA's next core Battlefield title, and is scheduled for a March 2015 launch. There will not be a new Battlefield release for holiday 2015, however, with EA CEO Andrew Wilson previously stating "We want to give Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline players more time to enjoy these games and immerse themselves in a game, the live service, and the community."

As was previously announced, the next major Battlefield game - the one after Battlefield Hardline - is slated for a release during the third quarter of EA's 2017 fiscal year. In calendar terms, that means Battlefield 5 (or whatever it may be called) will arrive sometime between October and December 2016, enough time for players to enjoy BF4 and Hardline.

I would love it if they added something along the lines of a Natural Selection gameplay style where you have to construct buildings on the battlefield.

Glynd - That's the one mode I've been waiting for them to implement!

Mix in some wasteland (ArmA mod) and BF would just about be truly awesome.

Perhaps allow regular soldiers to drop sand-bags or dig small trenches, with the commander being able to place down bunkers and air drop in crates of building materials that the average soldier use to complete the buildings.

Honestly, being able to build a bunker on the front lines while taking suppressing fire would be intense.

they already remade bf 1942. it was called bf 1943 n it was quite decent. (albeit console only). look for another POS modern military shooter.

That was not a full game. Only had 3 maps and limited vehicles. Hardly a remake. I never got to play BF1942 when it came because I had a s*** PC. So I would enjoy playing a new version of it. Get some awesome bolt action shooting going.

Smooth bore muskets and fixed bayonets and 6 pounder canons, I would have a go at that.

The closest thing is that multiplayer addon for Warband.

Pretty sure it is (or at least WAS) free on origin if you still wanted to play it.

It's worth doing it just so you can get "DC Final" mod and see how battlefield is REALLY meant to be played.

I was so into Desert Combat that I played in ladder and any available hour was spent in a 2:1 64 bot match (with me on the 1 side) and farming up thousands of kills in the apache or A-10 etc.

I'm really hoping it's a new 2142, or at least another future warfare scenario.
