That being said, fans of great visuals, physics-based puzzles and cute characters can overlook the game’s ‘basis’ and jump in and enjoy a game that truly delivers in its core elements.

Visually Darkest Dungeon looks gorgeous, Hand drawn gothic character models are lovingly animated while the backgrounds are meticulously detailed. Simple attack and defence animations stop the game from feeling static and it all melds together resulting in a simple, yet distinct and unique portrayal of a cursed land engulfed in darkness...

Just Cause 3 Review (Score: 8.5/10)

Review by Steve Farrelly @ 5th December, 2015
There’s a lot more to love about Just Cause 3 than there is to dislike. Weapons combat is relatively simple outside of explosive devices (and the sniper rifle), but enemies are often dispatched in a satisfactory and fast manner. It’s frenetic without the need for being precise, and you’ll often find yourself wielding magical weapons with unlimited ballistic ammo and an unbelievable ability to heal that puts Master Chief to shame, which we know was a decision made to keep the game fun...

I could see myself playing a lot of Rainbow Six Siege. A lot of it. For it to be successful, it will need players and it will need proper, consistent support from Ubisoft. The team at Ubi has already made some solid commitments to the future of the game -- maps will always be free, Operators will be purchasable through both in-game currency and real world money and the only thing locked behind micro-transactions are cosmetics...

In the end, Legacy of the Void will be remembered for a number of reasons. First, as the final chapter in the StarCraft story that began 17 years ago. Second, as a satisfying conclusion to the StarCraft II trilogy. One that includes some of the best single-player missions in the series.

Star Wars Battlefront might not be terribly considerate of solo players and its by-design accessibility might deter DICE’s hardcore Battlefield fans, but there’s no denying the multiplayer is a hell of a lot of fun, and as far as creating the feeling of being part of a Star Wars movie, it doesn’t get any better than this...

In this future, a world where climate change has led to the comfortable temperate regions on the planet and land as a whole disappearing under volumes of water, it’s up to the various mega corporations to build, mine, and expand into artic territories. And even, colonise the moon.

I always love reviewing these games because it’s spoiler-free territory because the game-world is what you make of it. The coming days, weeks and months will be filled with conversations between family, friends and strangers on just how they tackled a particular mission, or simply how they’ve shaped their version of Sanctuary over how you did it...

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel you were hoping for. More tombs, bigger areas to explore, and new abilities to discover and master. In terms of what a blockbuster sequel should look like, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a definite candidate for a sequel done right.

Juggling fan expectations for the Halo series must be incredibly tricky for 343 Industries. It’s not just that the newish Halo kids on the block have inherited a hell of a mantle from Bungie, it’s also that we fans expect that a Halo game’s campaign experience will be just as compelling as the multiplayer...

Guitar Hero Live Review (Score: 6.5/10)

Review by Steve Farrelly @ 26th October, 2015
uitar Hero Live has just taken itself too seriously, and that concept is at pure odds with what the franchise used to be about. Don’t get me wrong, there is fun here, there’s multiplayer, hero powers and a decent list of songs, but the idea that these might eventually have you forking over more cash should make you trepidatious at least. I dunno, in the end it feels like Guitar Hero Live is a job, and not the party the previous games were...

There’s a solid 15+ hours of gameplay on just the main quest, and goodness knows how many more dozens of hours completing the side missions out in the open-world. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate gets more right than it gets wrong, but in trying to amend some of the sins of the series, it exacerbates the issues instead of offering a cure...

Review by Steve Farrelly @ 21st September, 2015
Underneath all of this though, there is an enjoyable game. Mad Max fans will either like the ties to the current movie, and the gorgeous wastes Avalanche has created here, or they’ll loathe the treatment of the main character. For what it’s worth I’m part of the latter group, but having pushed on through for the sake of review, I can say that it gets easier to deal with as the game progresses...

I’m not sure if it's the endorphins of post-raid afterglow talking, but right now I’m inclined to say this is Bungie's best end-game content yet. Any Guardian that was put off by the uninspired, massively cheese-able Crota's End, or the non-raid solution that was Prison of Elders, should definitely make a beeline for King's Fall...
