Another big crowd-sourced funding campaign has successfully reached and exceeded it's initial goal, with the Kickstarter drive for
Carmageddon: Reincarnation -- a new addition to the cult-classic 90s racing series from the original creators -- winding up with a US$625,143 total from 15,736 backers.
Awesomely, although the total fell short of their other stretch goals at $650k and $750 for co-operative multiplayer and split-screen support for the PC, the developers have pledged to still make these features a reality eventually:
If for any reason we don't quite make it (but we WILL, we WILL!), DON'T DESPAIR!! We won't let you down, and we WILL STILL be incorporating ALL those features that we've stated are Stretch Goals. We will still support: MAC, LINUX, SPLIT-SCREEN PC!, CO-OP! It will just take us a little longer to deliver them to you! (Although it won't, as we're GOING TO MAKE IT!!) :D
A February 2013 release date for the first step in their "iterative development project" was mentioned in their Kickstarter summary.
If we reach our Kickstarter target of $400,000, we'll be able to deliver the first release of Carmageddon: Reincarnation by February 2013. Following that, our backers will get every update of the game as it's released, for FREE.
