Following the first exclusive hands-on with Skyrim during Quakecon (of which AusGamers was graciously included), Bethesda have released the promised screenshots of the player-characters created by the various publications during their one-hour session with the game.

The previous trailers and screenshots have thus far all featured the same Nordic character, but the Elder Scrolls games are all about player choice and Skryim of course has the expected array of races on offer including Nord, Redguard, Argonian, Khajit, Bosmer, Dunmer, Imperial and Orc.

Unfortunately Steve is currently in transit (yes, yet again) -- headed to GamesCom 2011 in Cologne, Germany -- so we haven't gotten a hold of his character snapshot yet, but check out this assortment of the various races in our Skyrim screenshot gallery.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due on November 11th 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Also, a comparison of faces between Skyrim, Oblivion, & Morrowind:

I saw that picture on reddit, I don't understand the point of it. You're comparing a game that was released 5 years ago to a game that's still in development and you know what I bet those aren't screenshots but damned pre-rendered bulls***.

heh some of those morrowind faces looked better than their oblivion counterpart.

To see how far we've come, and how the designs of the races have changed? Plus it's just damn cool. :D

Hehe yeah, the extra shading detail in the textures makes them look a fair bit better imo, plus oblivion has oddly squishy-looking & round faces.

Oh look a Green Orc +1 for diversity.

Oh look a Green Orc +1 for diversity.

It is lame and repetitive within the genre, but I think that the title was referring to diversity within the game's world. :p

Also, anybody else unable to tell which are the imperials, brennen (sp?), nords, think that the dunmer and wood elves look the same now, and noticing a lack of gold elves?

I reckon it's to do with the uncanny valley.

I reckon its to do with the Oblivion ones looking a bit s***. Its like someone got carried away with seeing how round they could make all the faces.

the argonian (lizard) looks better in morrowind imo. the oblivion one is lame. the skyrim one looks cool.

I'm so going Argonian. That or Kahjit (spelling?) as they are clearly the best 2 looking races.

I highly doubt it, they're pretty s*** if they're pre-rendered. But this is Bethesda, they're not exactly known for their amazing art.

I reckon it's to do with the uncanny valley.

No, the Oblivion characters just look awful.

I want to see a Daggerfall comparison tacked onto it. (You could get their boobies out!) ... ahem.

heh, probably. but the oblivion ones look like they're trying to be realistic (and failing badly) while the morrowind ones look like cartoon representations.

You may have a point orbitor - the humans in Oblivion do perhaps look more 'realistic' (though with really bad expressions and odd puffiness/brightness - failing at it as you say), while the other two generations are perhaps more stylized. Though I think that it was the non-human species which people meant looked much cooler in Morrowind than Oblivion.

Always liked Oblivion back in the day, but I dunno maybe its just me, but I always felt lonely in the game, think would be a awsome coop game, not a MMORPG of course but be pretty cool if you could maybe coop up with 3 or 4 of your friends abit like borderlands. Just me I guess

Skyrim won't use GFWL apparently. I just finally got it working by changing OS too. ^_^

To be honest, the new models make them look a lot more realistic.

Morrowing is rather obvious but Oblivion's faces look sorta bloated and squishy. The Khajiit and Argonian beast races in Skyrim almost look more sentient like they actually are, instead of cartoony lizards and cats.

I must admit, going purely off those screenshots, the Wood Elves look a little more "gritty" than we're used to but that's probably just one specific customisation of the Wood Elves.

I don't see how Morrowind's models look better than oblivion's. Sure they looks a bit plump but it was a step in the right direction. Unless you wanted Morrowind's models and just upgraded textures put on them in oblivion. As for Skyrim.....fraking amazing....DO WANT.

They have more personality the Morrowind ones. Of course, 'personality' is about a subjective trait as you can get, so your results may vary.
BladeRunner

I can see that they look....more like they are meant to be in Morrowind if that's what you mean, Not as plump and rounded. In Skyrim they look like the absolute definition of their races. I could not have imagined them better myself.

I found an awesome way to play morrowind but It caused me to be a god damn thief. When you are indoors in say, a weapon shop, you could steal any item you wanted (within grabbing range) but jumping and hitting the roof. When your head hits the roof there is a small pause where I guess it think you are floating and so if you take something during that moment no one accuses you of stealing. Just don't sell the stuff back to them or talk to guards when you have stolen s*** or your in trouble.

I would just kill an Ordinator in Vivec, loot the body, and drop the loot on the ground. You could pay the fine, then grab the loot and sell it for a tidy profit.

It was impossible to have even a vaguely plain looking face in oblivion. Every face looked like they'd hit every branch when falling off the ugly tree.

I spent more in that game, then any other game, creating a character. Folly. Every character purposely looks awful. Thankfully you cover it with a helmet very quickly.
