The Steam website is carrying news of an awesome Rockstar Week sale, which includes The Rockstar Collection - 13 Rockstar games, including Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City, GTA 4, Bully, Manhunt, the Max Payne series, and a bunch of other titles.

All for USD$42.49.

It's a great deal, but that bundle is currently unavailable to Australians, presumably due to the regionalised pricing that we get to enjoy so much here. So I guess you can just admire it from afar.

We're looking at ways you can evade Steam's region-based restrictions to take advantage of this deal, but it's only on sale for a few more days, so you might have to try and figure it out yourselves. If you do, let us know in the comments!

I'd get divorced if I dropped cash on this, but I'd think the cc=uk thing would work?

In this case it's not just due to regionalised pricing, most of the games listed aren't available to Aussies through Steam at all for any price. With Manhunt at least I think is RC'd, dunno why the rest are unavailable though.

Shame, I would have dropped ~$50 on that.

hmm, I can't even see that deal in my store...

It may still work though. It is possible to have games on your account that aren't available in your region through gifting. So the cc=uk trick may work.

?cc=uk method works but you need to go through a VPN now.

anonymitynetwork.com works to this effect.

Also, gifting works with this method, confirmed.

try using ultrasurf (anonymous proxy) and create/load steam account in the vpn'ed browser then gift the bundle to yourself like pinky mentioned :)

Hmm, Pinky I had trouble trying that method, can you confirm your steps?

Manhunt was banned wasnt it?

I did have it on PS2, but the FKN EX MRS must still have it or sold it somewhere.

My mate said he had a copy of it and sold it for like $200 last year.

What an effort that was to buy it using a linux machine. Started downloading a game, I'll check my usage before I go all out and grab the entire 50 gig. I'm supposed to get free steam content from Australian sources but there's no way to make sure you're getting it from an Aussie source is there?

It depends if the aus sources even have it too. You can try Frey's filter.

I just got a mate in the US to gift it to me, seems to have worked but I've not tried installing them yet. Doesn't seem to let me give away the extra copy of GTA4 i already had though, which is a shame.

just used freevpn and anonymitychecker.com, and used the ?cc=uk site to buy Bad Company 2 for $50, the rockstar pack for $50, Kings Quest and Space Quest for $35, and Alpha Protocol for like $42.

getting bad company 2 and alpha protocol from the UK i saved $70 over the AU store pricing.

check steamprices.com/au/notavailable and steamprices.com/au/topextracharges to do your window shopping before buying

The payment has already gone from my account, how is it a processing payment if they've taken it and are going to refund it. Damnit, Liberty City finally just downloaded and I ordered a game pad today.

Anyone else having any issues?

wait so you own the games and have already downloaded one and installed on your pc and now theyre taking it away? isnt that illegal?
Hogfather

I doubt its illegal.

There's no doubt a line in the TOS that they can tell you to get f***ed at any time for any reason and that your license to run any software is entirely at their pleasure, likely untested in court.

No problem my end. My web banker says :

05/05/2010 VISA PURCH 30/04/10 STEAMPOWERED.COM $50.64

It only shows a debit once it's left the account, until then it just shows the money as missing from my account (Debit VISA)

Yeah, great way to spend 50 odd gig haha.

Probably something in the fineprint. All I could find in their support was a stipulation that if a gift was gifted to another country it wouldn't be playable until it hits release date.

I wrote down the CD keys for GTA IV and Liberty City, I wonder if they'd still work heh. I've sent them an email from the email address I used for the UK account to gift from.

Edit: Haha, I just clicked "go offline" on steam and the buttons changed from Purchase on each game to Play ... and they open and play. Odd.

Wow that sucks. This is worse than no r18 easily. Individually games are still cheaper from online retailers but special deals + steamworks is better.

Haha, it's kind of looking like it, I just played GTA Episodes for two-three hours and logged into the rockstar thingo and MSN thingo and the game played fine. I must admit this is the first time I've got a GTA game and tried to play the missions instead of see how many cops I can have chasing me.

OK so I got a reply from Steam:

Hello Charlie, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Your transaction has been flagged by our fraud prevention system. For the protection of the cardholder, we request that you verify the following information: -Steam account name you are attempting to purchase on: -Complete cardholder billing information (name and billing address): -Last 4 digits of credit card number, card type (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), and card expiration date: -Valid daytime phone number including country code (if applicable) or area code: Once we receive this information we will notify you and you should be able to make your purchase. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Looks like it may have been just a mess up with their fraud detection. I replied and hopefully will get to keep them at the same price.

Maybe it's the opposite of a mess up, considering you are acting (technically) fraudulently? :|

I don't understand this though, don't you need to give a (obviously false) billing address when you create a UK account? And considering you don't have a UK credit/debit card, doesn't the transaction get pulled up for the billing address not matching your Australian card? Or do they not actually check billing address against online card payments?

:S

Well, I think they're more worried about the credit card being stolen then someone pretending to be from there considering they haven't seemed to try to hard to stop people doing it before. I use 12 Downing St as my "UK Address" heh. I guess I should have used Paypal.

I just got another reply asking for the expiry date and name on my credit card, they didn't say anything about me using an Australian address or phone number in the last email I replied to and you'd assume if they were to have an issue with it they wouldn't be asking for more info, they'd just flat out refuse to continue to restore it.

Another update.

They replied again and said they have unlocked my account (the one I gifted the game from) but said nothing about the rockstar pack. So I goto log into my main account and it's been disabled. I log into the UK account and it now has CoD MW2 attached to it but nothing in the manage gifts. The rockstar games are working if I run them from the folder they're in but I can't log into steam on that account due to it being locked heh.

Maybe if I keep asking them to fix it I'll get even more free stuff? ha ha.
