After over seven years of planning and back and forthing, Nintendo and animation studio, Illumination, have finally lifted the lid on thei collaboration to bring Super Mario Bros. to life in CG movie form. And the results are... well, we'd say a bit of a mixed bag.

Above you'll find an embed from today's Nintendo Direct which was solely focused on the movie, featuring both Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination's Chris Meledandri introducing us to a very Hollywood representation of the iconic character and game-universe. You can also just watch the trailer for the movie on its own embedded below.

The obvious things that might jar some are Chris Pratt's Mario and Jack Black's Bowser (though we're leaning in the camp of the latter likely stealing and saving the whole thing in equal measure), but we'd be lying if we didn't say it looked cute and entertaining and family-friendly -- all tenets of the modern Nintendo and Super Mario Bros. IP.

The movie is out in April next year and we'll share more on it as Nintendo makes it available.
