Forspoken is a game that consistently fails to deliver, despite some lofty ideas, and manages only to impress in the most obscure moments.

Double Masters 2022 is the latest set for Magic: The Gathering (MTG), and following in the footsteps of the original Double Masters it’s, well, set to provide powerful reprints featuring new designs. Which means a whole bunch of returning classics, with Double Masters 2022 containing hundreds of returning cards.

And our friends at Wizards of the Coast have given us a sneak peak at one. A return to the 61st Magic expansion that was released all the way back on May 3, 2013.

Take the Initiative!

The Dragon's Maze set focused on the City of Ravnica, guilds, and a race to navigate a maze of clues to uncover some world changing power. It first hit the scene in 2013 and was well received for its awesome cards and great use of Split cards for spells.

And with that our Double Masters 2022 reveal covers the return of a potentially powerful slice of Enchantment - Legion’s Initiative.

Legion's Initiative

    Mana Cost: RedWhite
    Type: Enchantment

Red creatures you control get +1/+0.
White creatures you control get +0/+1.

RedWhite, Exile Legion's Initiative: Exile all creatures you control. At the beginning of the next combat, return those cards to the battlefield under their owner’s control and those creatures gain haste until end of turn.

The combination of a permanent enchantment with creature buffs and the ability to exile and see the creatures return to the battlefield with haste (meaning they can do their combat dance right away) is one of those classic Magic: The Gathering moments you try to build towards so you can pull off something epic. When played in conjunction with other cards for that extra dose of synergy, Legion’s Initiative has a lot of potential to re-make its mark.

Here's another variation with the awesome art by Jaime Jones.

Seeing it return in Double Masters 2022 is no doubt great to see, especially when you factor in that it’s been almost a decade since the card was available in booster packs. This is a set made for both competitors and collectors, and with two rares and two foils found in every pack Double Masters 2022 will be great for players looking to add considerable power to their decks.

Magic: The Gathering Double Masters 2022 is out July 8, 2022.
