When it comes to videogames starring the tux-wearing James Bond the conversation usually begins (and often ends) with the Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye 007 from Rare. Today comes news direct from Hitman studio IO Interactive, with word that it's working on Project 007 - "a brand new James Bond video game with a wholly original story".
Here's the teaser.
Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game with a wholly original story. Earn your 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story, to be developed and published by IO Interactive.
As per the official site Project 007 is a working title and the studio is currently on the look out for talent to join the team as it embarks on creating a brand new game that will also serve as a James Bond origin story. Interestingly IO Interactive will both develop and publish the game, which builds on the studio's recent independence.
With the success of the Hitman franchise it's a match that feels just about perfect too, and something that instantly pulls it out of the N64-fog surrounding Bond games. Hitman, although tonally different to the 007 movie franchise, shares quite a few sensibilities when it comes to espionage, infiltration, and other clandestine operations.
Plus, ol' baldy is a bit of an international man of mystery himself.
