Tycoon-type games are everywhere, and depending on your position on Matt Damon and his zoo-owning ways (and 'hilarious animal mishaps'), you could be forgiven for not paying too much attention to Planet Zoo. But we implore you to take a squiz at this new Gamescom trailer for the forthcoming zoo tycoon game with pretty decent visuals that look to pay tribute to the game's animals more than anything else.

Here's the official skinny from Frontier Developments ahead of the game's Steam beta which kicks off from September 24 through to October 8 (hey, that's my birthday!):
The Planet Zoo Beta runs from 24 September until 8 October, featuring the first scenario from Planet Zoo’s Career mode, and a biome from Franchise mode.
A new story awaits in Planet Zoo’s narrative-driven Career mode. Players will be introduced to a cast of colourful characters in a globe-trotting campaign, placing them in charge of zoos around the world. The Planet Zoo Beta includes the first scenario, introducing players to zoo management and a selection of animals from the full game, including a number of as-yet unrevealed animals.
And sandbox meets simulation in Franchise mode where players can build, manage, research and develop their own zoo franchise alongside a global community of Planet Zoo players. The Franchise mode Beta features Planet Zoo’s online Animal Exchange where players can trade animals to increase the genetic diversity and wellbeing in their zoo. At launch, Franchise mode will further introduce Daily Challenges and weekly Community Goals that will unite Planet Zoo community behind a shared objective.
Planet Zoo is playable all week at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Visitors are invited to go hands-on with Career mode and Sandbox in Hall 7 at the Koelnmesse.
Planet Zoo launches 5 November 2019 and is available to pre-order now for £34.99 (€44.99, $44.99). Planet Zoo Deluxe Edition is available to pre-order now for £42.99 (€54.99, $54.99). Both are available on the Steam online store. Planet Zoo Deluxe Edition includes the Planet Zoo game plus bonus content, including:
  • Beta access.
  • Three exclusive animals.
  • High-quality wallpapers.
  • Original Soundtrack.
Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition can join the Planet Zoo Beta between 24 September and 8 October, and add the Komodo Dragon, Pygmy Hippopotamus, and Thomson’s Gazelle to their zoos at launch.
