According to a new report by the Wall St Journal, a hardware refresh for the Nintendo Switch could be out as early as mid-2019 - offering a number physical updates over the current console - including a brighter and thinner display. With Switch sales slowing down after its incredible launch year, a hardware refresh could be a good move for Nintendo.

Especially if longer battery life is one of the targets - perhaps the only part of the Switch experience that we'd love to see improved. Plus, the idea of a hardware refresh makes perfect sense when it comes to portable or handheld consoles, which Nintendo itself has a long history of.

Heading into the busy holiday sales period we probably won't get any sort of official response to the rumours from Nintendo itself, with several other sources claiming that the refresh could be anything from a more sleek and portable Switch to something that will offer some noticeable performance improvements for the current line-up of games.
