In a move seemingly taken out of the Mirror's Edge playbook, comes word of a new mode headed to the next Call of Duty. Called Free Run, this mode will set players loose in an obstacle course where they'll need to use their movement skills and jet-powered double jumps to navigate through various, err, obstacles. And all to post the best and fastest times. In fact it kind of sounds like Ninja Warrior, but with futuristic army dudes. And a distinct lack of excitable Japanese narration.

Announced via the latest Call of Duty Livestream, Treyarch’s Mark Lamia and Dan Bunting explain the reasoning behind this new mode and even give us a taste of what to expect.

(Note: the Free Run stuff begins at about the 11:00 minute mark with the demo beginning at around the 16:00 minute mark.)
