Hi-Rez Studios has announced the next update to hit its third-person multiplayer online battle arena, SMITE, which will introduce the much-anticipated Siege mode, the Egyptian God of the afterlife, Osiris, and a new league ranking system among a number of more traditional bug fixes and changes.
Scheduled to go live later tonight, the Siege patch will feature the new game mode that pits opposing teams against one another in a two-lane Mesoamerican themed map. In Siege mode, each team earns points for player and minion kills that contribute toward the spawning of siege towers which help push lanes and destroy opposing objectives.
Of course it wouldn't be a SMITE update without a new God, this time introducing Osiris, a melee-centric God in the Egyptian pantheon. Osiris everages his incorporeal form to move through obstacles, binding and slowing enemy Gods in the process. Check out his reveal trailer below for a great overview of his abilities and ultimate.
It won't be just new content getting the spotlight in the Siege patch, with changes also coming to the League System, the ranking leaderboard system for SMITE's growing competitive playerbase. The new system will add six leagues from your traditional MOBA stylings: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Master. Each of the leagues will also be subdivided into five individual divisions, making climbing the virtual ladder even more challenging and rewarding.
