Ahead of its November 22nd release in Australia and around the world, Microsoft has finally unveiled a full 12 minute live demo of their operating system for the next-gen Xbox One console.

Taking the reins is Microsoft's Marc Whitten and Yusuf Mehdi, who look at a comprehensive demo of the Xbox One's operating system, including instant switching, biometric sign-in, Live TV, Skype, game DVR, OneGuide and more. Sadly the interesting Snap feature that, as the name suggests, snaps windows to the side while playing games or browsing the Internet was absent, but hopefully we can see more on that feature sooner than later.

Check it out in action below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Wow, impressive. What's even more impressive is that the chief marketing and strategist for Microsoft is someone with the name of Yusuf Mehdi. My man Mehdi Asalamu Alaikum

+1

Am I the only one who is unimpressed by any of this?
PC's have had multi user stuff for years, he's commanding it to do stuff by voice and yet still uses the controller to navigate around the UI. Why not have it just read his body movements to scroll through the UI by waving at the kinect?

They go on and on about how your stuff is just there in the background still running, well exactly how much stuff could you have running before the system grinds to a halt?

They really like to go on about how magical it is, it's so magical everything is magical it's just so magical. Seriously? No.

That bit where the kinect follows him around in skype, that s*** is just plain creepy. I wonder how long it is before these things get hacked like common PC webcams and people's private moments are all caught on the internet. lulz.

Last i heard none of the voice command stuff works in AU at release tho? Have they expanded on that - like when it will be added? Or has that changed?

Not to jizz my fanboy goo all over you, but the difference here is that we have the one package that I can go to the store and buy without having to setup a custom media PC which only intermediate to advance users can do... What you said is technically correct, i can't and wont deny that, with enough stuffing around I can (and have) setup a pc that will do much that same.. but you know what's quicker and cheaper.... just buying an xbox.

Thats not to say that this is the answer to lounge room entertainment, consumers will ultimately decide that, but its a step in the right direction of making this kind of thing accessible to everyone.

Voice commands all work in Australia at launch, I think its only the "XBox power on" command that doesn't work for some reason.

target in the US accidentally shipped a couple of xbone's to customers. one guy did an unboxing vid and tweeted about it. MS DMCA'd the vid and they have also banned his console.

not buying one works better

That is basically what SteamOS is going to solve, I think

Definitely nothing revolutionary in this. But I think they're trying to take a leaf out of Apple's book and take a bunch of existing stuff bundle it together and hopefully improve it. It looks cool. But...this is in the US. I wonder how well this would work in Australia...with our s***** overseas TV options and costs...

I hope so, clearly these companies have seen a void in the market and they intend to fill it, Which is f*****g rockin for us as consumers.

At the moment the easiest and cheapest way for me to run a media centre is to run XBMC on Unbuntu which is great and all, but linux is like a second language to me that I only learned in high school, and I consider myself an advance computer operator.

The f*** that it takes me a few hours after I build the box and setup the image to then get everything working nicely and correctly is just a stupid annoyance that shouldn't exist in this day and age (hardware drivers are the main issue of mine). If steamOS can make linux mainstream in the house then i'll be a happy man.

Infact I look forward to the day I can get rid of Windows on every machine in the house and just run a free OS that does exactly what I need it to with out a ton of stupid configuration.

Don't hate on IE because of legacy browsers, IE11 is a solid browser.

So will the PS4 also have similar voice commands? I may have to get both consoles and a new PC to keep everyone on QGL happy.

yes, the ps4 has voice commands even if you don't purchase the ps eye camera.
