Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios have today announced that their Dungeons & Dragons styled MMO Neverwinter has now landed in open beta, marking the beginning of unrestricted access for the free-to-play title.
The major milestone of Open Beta marks the beginning of unrestricted access to Neverwinter and its content creation system, the Foundry, along with no further character wipes. All skill upgrades, profession choices, personal customizations, companions and mounts are persistent and shape the way adventurers rebuild the city of Neverwinter, saving it from Valindra Shadowmantle's evil forces. Neverwinter's Foundry further enables and empowers gamers and authors to create their own unique adventures, publish their own self-generated content directly to the game world, review the missions and quests of others and even tip creators with in-game currency.
Cryptic Studios Executive Producer and COO, Craig Zinkievich has also thanked those participating in the previous betas, including "the Founders, Beta Weekend participants, Alpha testers, fans, and press for their feedback and continued support in making Neverwinter the best game we've ever launched."

Neverwinter's open beta phase also brings with it access to the Neverwinter Gateway, a web portal that allows "players to remotely access in-game status information via their desktops, tablets, or smartphones." Currently the online portal is giving access to players can craft, view their characters, buy and sell in the Auction House, monitor guild activity and daily events, and access their mailboxes.

Check out the launch cinematic below, which was previously available in three separate parts but now made whole. For more information on the beta and signing up, head over to the official website.

Nice trailer and most importantly, If the Devs keep their word on avoiding the pay to win fate, this might be one of the best F2P MMO's out there.

Worth a shot IMO :-)

The f2p queues are insane. I'm hoping this will change, login in and waiting an hour to play is lamo.

Yeah but I can buy in with the founders pack and skip the queue which is what I am sure they are doing.

Since the maintenance last night the queues have pretty much gone. Less than a day after launch and it seems pretty stable, full marks to Cryptic for the quick turnaround.

Honestly, I've tried 4 times. Graphics and style just feels too dated.
Anyone over 20 that can offer some input?

Yeah it's good in my opinion. It has a nice old school D&D table top feel to it.
The Foundry is great too. Just wish the servers would stay up! It will be interesting to see where it goes.

Yup, lvl 34 Guardian Fighter

The game is at its best if you get into a guild with teamspeak. I'm currently in an oceanic guild and we have a blast running skirmishes and dungeons together. Graphics are a little dated I guess but the combat system is refreshing, no grinding and multiple ways of leveling up.

It's a good game if you're short on time, you can make a decent advancement in a few hours of play in a session.

I really like it, it's the first MMO that I've played that has really engaged me.

I don't know how trog feels about plugging clans but if you're on the Dragon shard and you're looking for some local and mature players to roll with, shoot me a pm.

Will there be a character wipe going from beta -> release or do they mean "no more wipes" applies to just this and other betas?

There will be no more character wipes. This is really a soft launch but they're using "open beta" to hide behind when things go wrong as they tend to do.
