Tecmo Koei has today announced the release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, the first Australian R18+ game to be released to the public since the new ratings came into effect earlier this year.
Developed by Team NINJA, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus brings the most intense, action-packed ninja adventure to PS Vita with a host of new features and plenty of blood. In the game, Ryu, the iconic super ninja of the Ninja Gaiden franchise, returns to the Sigma series to prevent the resurrection of the evil Archfiend by hunting down the Demon Statue stolen by the wicked Black Spider Ninja Clan. Players will battle from Tokyo to New York as Ryu encounters vicious enemies and acquires an extensive assortment of ninja weaponry along the way.
To celebrate the launch of the first R18+ game available to the public, Interactive Games & Entertainment Association CEO Ron Curry was awarded a framed copy of the title alongside its classification certificate. Curry has also revealed a new blog post (thanks VG247) detailing a "master plan" for the future of the Australia's games industry.
“Well, that’s step one in our master plan to have an Australian classification scheme that’s fit for purpose and able to cope with the rapid change in content creation, delivery and consumption. I guess I have something to do for the next ten years.”
Curry also offered a thank you to everyone that had participated in the rally for new classification laws, including academics, journalists, political groups, retailers, more than 90,000 Australians who took part in a submission process, and the former minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O’Connor.
Brendan O’Connor (former Home Minister for Home Affairs) and his team took hold of this issue and really championed the political push that was needed to get an R18+classification on the Commonwealth agenda. Through Brendan, his policy team and the Classification Branch of the Attorney-General’s Department, the R18+ issue got its first real political leg up.
There are so many more individuals who contributed to this all coming together, not least of which are the 90,000 people who took part in the submission to the Commonwealth directly or through the efforts of EB Games and the subsequent petitions from Game. It was indeed a team effort.
Alongside the celebrations Teckmo Koei has also revealed a new launch trailer for the Vita title, which you can check out below featuring the brand new R18+ logo.
