Blizzard Ramps Up with "Unannounced Game Title"

The internet caught wind of a new job posting over at Blizzard.com, asking for a "Software Engineer" to work on "Unannounced Game Title". Now, you could argue this is for the previously revealed "Titan" MMO, or any one of their planned expansions to existing titles, but all of those are listed separately on the site, leaving "
Unannounced Game Title" as one tantalising position, indeed.

So now we have Titan, two more StarCraft II expansions, three more planned World of WarCraft expansions, an admittance to a Diablo III expansion and now this. Hopefully we learn more at this year's BlizzCon, though knowing Blizzard, that's highly unlikely. Speculation away...

then i remember that im still not playing diablo 3 and i realise it will be at least 10 years before blizzard decide that this "unannounced game title" is finished...

They need to switch off the WoW servers. So three more expansions would be about another six years worth. I can't see it being that appealing after all that time.

WoW is going to be around forever like counter-strike. I can see it.
Everquest and Ultima online had far fewer player bases and are still going.

I dunno though, WoW's playerbase strive on new content. If they get bored, they quit at the drop of a hat. That is why WoW is so successful, it gives everyone what they want, something they can say "hey, look what I have", and large amount of said things. And it's by far the easiest MMO to play.

Damn, I'd give my left nut for a job at Blizzard. I applied last year after the last games company I worked for went belly up but I didn't really have enough experience for them to be interested, especially since there would be relocation involved. Even their junior programmers have like 4+ years game dev experience under their belts and multiple titles shipped, its a high bar to reach.

Three more expansions for WoW is fine, but it would be incredibly expensive for anyone just starting the game if they continue the current model of requiring the previous expansion to play. It seems especially cheap if they're lowering the experience required to play through the lower levels when you're still charging for them.

Having to buy the game for $30, then BC for $50, then WotLK for $50, then Cata for another $50... if they did another three at that kind of price you're looking at a $300+ outlay for a new player to play with existing players!

Raven, you don't actually need to do that. Get World of Warcraft. Get to level 60. Then buy Burning Crusade. Get to level 70. Then get Lich King. Get to level 80. Then get Cataclysm. Get to level 85. Over time, it's not as "expensive".

By rights it should of stopped being appealing already. Lets face it people are less likely to be playing it now because of how good the game is but rather because of an unwillingness to give up the mammoth investment in time they have poured into it. I know a metric-f***-ton of old guild mates that simply log on each day and go through the motions. It's not a game it's a shame.

That's why I've put my interests into my girlfriend, and other games. And also uni. Haven't touched WoW since December last year, and if my girlfriend has anything to say of it, don't think I will be coming back!

Seriously, noone wants anything different, and if its the same, they all say its the same. People then say "needs X" and then X is released and they say "It's not a wow killer".

Can't have it both ways, something different can't kill wow. Something the same will only match or beat wow for about 3 months and then most people go "well i already invested xhundred hours into my wow char and i want to be at the end game already..".

Wow introduces a new area with roughly the same quests and every fanboy jizzes, introduce a different game with similar quests and fanboys go "ugh so samey".

I thought rift was good, i just don't want the attachment of a lifetime of a mmo. It's like a job which doesn't pay money, which makes it like a girlfriend who doesn't have sex with you. Kind of this weird thing you could show off to a few people who will circle jerk with you around it, but otherwise totally pointless.

What was the thread topic again?

Last years Blizzcon was a bit of a disappointment, but I chalk that down to them being in limbo, with SC2 out, WoW already had Cataclysm announced the year before, and Diablo 3 was same old same.

And haha Tetsuo, maybe I'm dating your sister :O

That graph further up the page has proven to be pretty accurate so far. WoW Brazil was announced for that date if i'm not mistaken, as well as WoW Mobile. I'd take it as the most correct estimate to rough release times. I quit WoW awhile ago (for like the 7th time) and don't have any interest in going back. Guild Wars 2 killed all other MMOs for me and i'm hanging out for that one so bad.

Rift was ok for awhile but I quickly got bored of it because I had no one to play with. Not nearly as fun when your on your own all the time.

I gave up on ~~WoW~~ gaming back in Jan when the baby came along and only started gaming again when Rift came out as it was good timing with the baby starting to settle down a bit. Played Rift, enjoyed it but got to about 20ish before I just started to think "It's just the same playing grind as WoW, why would I give up playing that with all the time invested to start something fresh". So couldn't be arsed playing WoW or playing Rift so fired up CoDBO and had fun in that before last weekend when I gave WoW another go and found it a little bit more enjoyable.

I think Rift is awesome, I would play that over WoW but I just can't seem to "get into it" to the same level.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you dude. I've spent so much time on WoW that I don't wanna start a new MMO and begin all over again. I gave Rift a go and while it looked nice and felt WOW-ish, I just couldn't bring myself to get to max lvl. Think I got to about 20-21 I think. Although I wouldn't mind trying Star Wars when it comes out. If it comes with a free month of game time when you buy it than that's your money's worth right there.

I dunno, I just felt like having a whinge. I think the whole getting to lvl 85 in 2 days was just ridiculous plus three of my toons got stuck in Vashir because the submarine mission was bugged. So I waited over a month before I went back and finished it. I dunno, I just expected more and felt ripped off. I know they re-vamped old Azeroth but I'm not about to start another new toon and lvl again. Maybe if they added a new class then yeah, I'd do that. I just think between the three exp-paks that have been released I found this the most boring.

yeh I didn't really care about old azeroth or levelling, I just wanted new raid content and to be in at the start of it before it got nerfed down to faceroll mode

my only real gripe is some of the class changes have been dumb, although not impossible to adjust to - and the amount of RNG in 10man raid hardmodes is stupid. resetting maloriak 5 times cos he doesn't cast aberrations before dark phase, or healers getting explosive cinders before they even get on the platform on nefarian p2 etc

Yeah, Cata was one of the smoothest launches I've ever seen and it was more complete than Wrath was when it launched. At least it had proper raid content, not just a cut and paste of naxx.
