I've lost count of how many times Duke Nukem Forever has been given a release date, but it seems that Gearbox Software feel that May 6th (or the 3rd for America) is when it's really coming. For real.

Announced overnight in a press release from Gearbox and backed up with an epic trailer, Duke's coming back after 14 years of being the longest running joke in videogaming and the crowned king of Vapourware titles.

Will it be any good? Are we looking at Daikatana 2.0?

Either way, the trailer has lots (and I mean lots) of T&A, drinking, things being blown up and Duke talking smack the whole way through.
New York, NY – January 21, 2011 – 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today what will be a landmark date in gaming history - legendary hero Duke Nukem will make his triumphant return in Duke Nukem Forever® on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on May 3, 2011 in North America and May 6, 2011 internationally!

Duke Nukem is one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in the interactive entertainment industry. Irreverent, non-PC, and uber macho, Duke Nukem is the perfect, uncompromising ass-kicking hero to remedy the overdose of today’s gaming archetypes. Duke brings his signature brand of babe-lovin’, cigar-smoking, beer-chugging and ass-kicking action as he saves the Earth and its babes from hordes of invading aliens. Where will you be when Duke Nukem Forever launches? Better mark your calendars, Duke’s legend is being told this May and his brand new trailer, viewable at www.dukenukemforever.com, promises to blow your mind!

Haha, against all odds, that actually looks pretty good.

And the trailer uses the same music as Scott Pilgrim versus the World.

Sigh @living in Aus..... will be denied, or will be stupidly RC'd then they will censor the crap out of it drop the graphics by 75% remove all blood, gore and sexy bits, and then send us a game that's suitable for preschoolers..... Because apparently all gamers in Australia are under 15. nobody 15+ plays games so why have an 18+ rating....sigh....

Yeah, song is Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy.

Actually came across the half a dozen Duke3D levels I built about 14yrs ago the other day. I should make an effort to fire them up again, one of them was a single player so big I had to stop working on it because it used up the limits of the editor resulting in a crash if i added anything more. Also a few DM maps I never released because I could never get multiple spawn points working properly, everone kept spawning in the one spot resulting in unlimited spawn killing :)

Anyone know if the blurry censored bits were just put in for the trailer, or are they actually in the game?

They were just put in for the trailer. Although, Duke3D used to have a toggleable censored mode, so it could possibly be an in-game option.

It's weird that it took them to long to publicly release this video, because 2K Games showed this exact trailer cut (without the pixelated censored bits) to a few of us press peeps just before our interviews with Gearbox at that Mana Bar event back in September. Guess they were just holding it off until they had a firm release date. it's kind of cool that they are approaching the public exposure thing differently, as the game is a bit of a special case.

Is it just me or does the voice acting of Duke actually sound f*****g terrible? It sounds as if his natural voice is a loooong way from what we hear, just sounds really forced imo.

I reckon we'll get hit with a double whammy on DNF - there's a high % chance it'll be banned all together or be forced to butcher the content similar to L4D2, at which point 2K Games will slap Aussie tax on it over Steam/digital distro and rub salt in even more.

Sex and violence is a big classification no-no so I suspect the .au edition will be edited. Prepare the VPNs!

blow the vpn,s just order it through games shop in uk. cheaper than steam anyway.

Honestly, I think it is more likely to be the sex and nudity that gets the game banned or edited here is Aus, not the violence or language.

Instead of holding our breaths regarding censorship, let's just concede defeat on that one. No way they will release it here unedited.

Pendulum did a pretty good remix of Voodoo People, the music video they shot for it also had The Prodigy in it.

Hard to speak for the second part, but Gearbox have been quoted as saying it's at least 15 hours at a good pace.

I think they have gone about it right. TF2 was delayed for f***** ages and when they finally released as a tongue in cheek thing it worked really well.

I think the ironic presentation works pretty well here also.

Why on earth are they delaying the release in Australia by a few days? How does that make ANY logical sense.

If anything, won't people just pirate it because they'd want it now rather than later? *boggle*

Yeah I agree kinda gay, they should have modernised it along with the game. If I'm not wrong it sounds exactly the same as original duke?

where is that old skool trailer for duke where it says "when it's done" at the end.. was that ingame footage, it looked pretty polished i thought??

from wiki

Gearbox software has developed a total of six games in the Half-Life series: Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift (expansion packs); ports of Half-Life for Dreamcast (which included Half-Life: Blue Shift) and Half-Life for PlayStation 2 (which included Half-Life: Decay); they also did a large amount of work on both the retail release of Counter-Strike and the main portion of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero.

This game is an insta-buy, I've still got my original Duke3D CD which also contains the Full Versions of Duke1 and Duke2, I can't wait any longer for this beauty!

Talk about piracy is, as always, not allowed. In addition to it being a really bad idea to publicly admit that you're happy to infringe copyright, it's not good for our website, so please refrain from doing it at all times!
