As hinted at a couple of days ago, those teaser trailers were part of a larger whole and today Piranha Games and Smith & Tinker have released the complete debut trailer for MechWarrior.

An exclusive interview with IGN reveals that while developer Piranha Games is still fishing for a publisher, the game is being constructed for PC and Xbox 360, built on Unreal Engine 3 tech.

The tasty bits of the Q&A include a year 3015 setting with a new story not necessarily correlated to previous games and a cooperative play focus with a goal of four players. Unfortunately they were unclear as to how much of a simulation focus there would be due to the limitations of console play but it is at least made clear that the lead developer is very much a PC MechWarrior fan and wants to bring that experience back this time around.

The Game has only been in development for nine months so there's still a lot to work out, most big features like the scope of multiplayer and whether it will have FMV cut-scenes etc hinge on what kind of publishing deal and eventual budget they settle on. Things are certainly looking promising though, MechWarrior fans stay tuned!

if it has the same multiplayer options as MW4 vengeance and mercs did (CTF was awesome, nothing like modifying a mad cat or daishi for maximum speed and running a couple of flag runs as stunned cougars and ravens looked on ;D), then i'll be totally content

of course, MW4 mercs still has lots of online players, so I could just go play that if this goes to hell, but it looks like this could be the much-needed revival of the franchise!

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because after having worked on licensed titles myself, I know how many s***** decisions (storywise and gameplay wise) and unrealistic deadlines get forced on you by the producers and publishers, its often not necessarily the developer's fault when licensed titles turn out s***.

Hopefully now that they're working with the ex-FASA dude and they've got pretty much free reign to do things right, they'll shine.

I'm expecting lots of whinging from people about how as it appears to be set in 3015, there is no Omni mechs.

Other that that.... SWEEEEEEEEEEET

I love everything about this video, except for the fact that the pilot comes down under a round parachute after ejecting.... roundies still being used in the year 3015 is laughable!

Also, mechwarrior 4 for free! Woooooo

Looks the goods.

Except one thing

Please for the love of GOD have new mech types in the game. Atlas's might be nice for historical purposes, but ....... been done for the last 5 iterations of the game.

lols. well it is a trailer :P the bit with the pilot going 'omgz!' when he sees the atlas in his face is pretty silly... ya gotta wonder if there is gonna be smoke that obscures radar in the game! also, thanatos (i think) vs atlas... pfft, if it was a daishi then fair enough! ;]

also, also, it looks like the thanatos(?) strafes behind the building to avoid a missile salvo... that would be cool! :D

Looks like a Warhammer, I don't recall it being available in mw2, mw3 or mw4 or their expansions, so it's a nifty inclusion.

It's a Warhammer (the mech being piloted flashes up on the right of the HUD, while targetted mechs appear on the left).

There won't be any new mechs, it's a reboot set in 3015. Though they have said they're trying to make each of the mechs unique and include piloting experience so sticking with a mech can be more useful then just buying something bigger.

ahh the warhammer. swoit! mmm dual ppcs :D

one of the things i did like about mw4 was the effect of the ppc on enemy mechs... it jerks thier view around n covers them with blue sparks making it hard for them to accurately retailiate (unless they r a bot).

The interview is really good, has lots of info on what their plans are, and yeah there is going to be stuff that obscures radar. They said they want to make it as much a game of information warfare as outright shooting things, so you can't just see someone on your radar when they're on the other side of the map and target them, you actually need to have your scout mechs out scouting and finding the positions of the enemies before you can see them on your radar, or launch unmanned drones or something. It also means you can hide/escape easier because if you disappear into a city and the other person loses you, he can no longer target you or see you on the radar.

They want to make all the different types of mechs actually useful and have real roles to fulfill, so a light mech isn't just something you use until you can get a bigger mech with bigger guns, it actually fills a proper scouting role and can do hit and run attacks and stuff. Sounds pretty sweet.

yay! ive been waiting for a good mechwarrior sequel for 10years now! i used to put mw2 cd in the car... had a great industrial sound track.

*edit* looks like they have really captured the atmosphere of the old mw series. hope the missions are good.

3015 sure does look a lot like what 2015 will probably look like, though (minus the mechs.. maybe).

Been waiting a long time for another MechWarrior, with any luck they'll take queue from the previous MechWarriors with the view of customizing the hell out of the mechs, lots of fun at LAN's.
