Sony has revealed Skype will be made available for use with their newly released Slim & Light PSP. The service will also be manageable from your handheld and will include the following features:
  • Free voice calls between Skype users
  • Skype contact list management (view existing contacts, add new ones)
  • Skype presence (see which friends are online and available to talk)
  • SkypeOut calls to make calls to landlines and mobile phones anywhere in the world (requires the purchase of Skype credit)
  • Optional SkypeIn number that lets users receive calls on Skype from landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world (requires the purchase of Skype credit)
  • View and modify Skype settings and account details (including username creation, SkypeOut settings, voicemail settings and call forwarding
The software will be made available later this month with a system update due for release which will add a Skype desktop icon to your PSP. From there it'll be a simple matter of logging in with your Skype account details or registering with Skype to be able to use the service from the get-go. Pretty neat, Nintendo might need to take note of this for the DS.
