AusGamers: Welcome back to AusGamers at E3, once again we're here with Joe Madureira of Vigil Games who had a massive hit earlier this year with Darksiders, one of my highest rated games. So Joe, tell us about this (referring to Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online)...
Joe Madureira: So Dark Millennium Online is an MMO based in the Warhammer 40K universe, as you can see the characters are quite awesome (points to two massive Space Marines behind us), and we're just so excited to be working on this game and I think as an IP Warhammer 40K is one of the coolest things to base an MMO on - the universe is so cool, there are so many cool races and creatures and worlds and it's just amazing.
AG: Jumping from a game like Darksiders to an MMO, and the studio is so young, it must be awesome for you guys, but what did you learn from Darksiders that you're bringing across to Dark Millennium?
Joe: A lot of the visual stuff translates very easily, but obviously the type of game this is, is very different so there is a learning process [for us], but luckily half the studio is addicted to MMOs and we have a lot of experienced people at the studio who have worked in MMOs in the past so that helps. But at the end of the day it's about making quality and that's what we've always been focused on and why you guys rated Darksiders as high as you did; we just won't settle for second place and we want to make Triple A games and we want to do the same with Dark Millennium.
AG: This is obviously a PC SKU, will we be seeing it land on consoles as well?
Joe: We can't talk about that yet (smiles).
AG: So aside from the unique visual style, what's going to set this game apart from other MMOs?
Joe: We can't really talk too much about gameplay specifics right now, but obviously the IP itself is very different from anything out there, I mean the fantasy bases are pretty much covered in the world of MMOs and there have been couple of sc-fi MMOs that have trickled out, but I think the really unique thing about Warhammer 40K is the mixture of familiar fantasy elements with this futuristic spin; it's 40,000 years in the future so you do have Orcs, but they have laser cannons and vehicles. So it's really a great opportunity for us to do lots of stuff you haven't seen in other MMOs.
AG: So you can't reveal much more about this, but when are you guys going to start talking about War's brothers? (Referring to a Darksiders sequel)
Joe: (Laughs) War's brothers... umm, I can't talk about that either. So just stay tuned.
AG: Okay, awesome Joe, thanks for your time.
Joe: You're welcome.

The game looks pretty sweet too, and Joe Mad doesn't seem like as much of a douchebag as I had expected him to be. I have a friend who absolutely hates his guts and has had me conditioned to think of him as a complete and utter douche, but he seemed cool.

The space marines were indeed awesome, better than any of the other fluff and expensive props littering around the show. They were actually pretty big guys in those suits, I'm not sure exactly where they see from but they weren't bumping into people that I noticed. I think the THQ guys said they're going to try to bring them (the space marine suits) over to some Aussie press events later in the year.
