Just two weeks out of the next meeting of the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General, where the R18+ rating for videogames will be discussed, Senator for the ACT and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Kate Lundy, spoke to the Senate regarding the need for the classification, which we have available for you to watch embedded below.

Obviously she's simply reiterating thousands of points already made, but at the very least it means we have some pollies on-side with the issue, and she's articulate and informed enough that this is definitely a step in the right direction.

If you can't be bothered watching, you can read it all right here.

It's awkward to watch politicians do a great job. Fantastic work by Senator Lundy, not just for gaming but for rarely seen civil and productive discourse in federal politics (from my experience at least).

Lundy has to be about the only competent politician around at the moment.

I wish she was given Conroy's job - maybe in 5-10 years.

Thing is, Conroy is a union power broker and I'm pretty sure Lundy is a fairly new senator.

FYI - She is married to David Foreman - Chairman of the CCC (Competitive Carriers Coalition).

Definitions of eventually on the Web:

finally: after an unspecified period of time or an especially long delay

Kate has been a fantastic representative in the senate for the IT community for a long time, so its not at all surprising to see her get it right here on game classifications too.

So it will happen between now and infinity years. Thanks for clearing that up.

Senator Lundy's speech is a BIG step forward. It helps in getting the support of the Attorneys-General. Stay tuned... Roland Kulen

Yeah great work there. What a champ. Nice to see a competent politician - I'm not talking about one that has similar views to myself, just someone that is well-informed on the issues and has done their research.

Agreed she did great and got the right points across, especially about the affect of ppl like me importing from overseas to get around the issue and having an affect on the growing market.

Though to be fair I've imported more games due to regional pricing than classification issues.

I have to admit, she does an excellent job at pointing out the important aspects of why 18+ is needed in an Australian market.

If only more politicians and members of society could be more informed on the issue.

Awesome job Mrs Lundy.

Ditto? At the end of the day I don't care about any classifications as I can get what ever I want overseas. Still would be better to have the right classifications here.

Calm, intelligent, and well informed.

Obviously not question time ...

If I could vote for her, that would be enough for me to vote for her for life.
I almost feel like I should send a thank you email/card or something.

But ... its not worth a pinch of s*** on Sundays because the individual beliefs of 8 people determine everything relating to censorship.

Well, he did say eventually. I'm certain gay marriage will be legal eventually, given how society is changing.

Anyways, I think she did and I hope the R18+ rating comes through. Eventually.

Not nessercellery. That's more to do with us getting f***ed over with game prices and not games themselves being refused sale here. Even if games do get banned or whatever, we can still torrent them so it's not really an issue.
