Would I notice a major difference between a Asus V7100 GeForce 2MX 32MB and a LeadTek Winfast GeForce3 TI200 ??

The cards are fairly cheap at the moment so I'm looking to upgrade, anyone know if this will give me a huge performance boost or if I should wait a while longer.

Don't get LeadTekWinfast. Get Asus or the Hercules. LeadTekWinfast are cheap for a reason.......

It does depend on the rest of your PC. If you've got a crappy CPU then you won't get huge performance increases because your CPU becomes a bottleneck. If you've got a decent CPU then yeah it'll rock.

LeadTek and Winfast

same thing mate... :P

and their low price is no reflection of their performance or reliability, just their lack of "special" features that cards like ASUS have.. and a pretty box

My system is

AMD Athlon TBird 1.1
Aopen AK73 PRO A MB
384MB PC133 RAM

Cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck should it ?

No, thats plenty of CPU power. Go the MSI GF3 Ti 200, its widely considered by far and away the best value GF3... And its a pretty color, too :)

I was gonna go for the LeadTek Winfast for a reason

They're only $269 + postage currently.

I figure thats an excellent price for a GeForce3

Point me to Sub $350 card from other manufactures and I'll consider it !

After working in a company doing RMA my suggestion is Asus or Hercules (probably Hercules more than Asus).

The Winfast cards have issues with some MSI motherboards and (from experience) have a higher failure rate.

Performance wise Asus and Hercules are better. The few dealings I have had with the MSI cards (GF3) the seem to be damn great.

Thankfully I didnt have to deal with Seagate HDD much (the majority of the bad ones went thru before I started and the company stopped selling them due to the failure rate).

My RMA hate was bloody IBM HDD. The damn things are useless.

my leadtek geforce sdr is still going strong, however my first geforce 2 pro used to overheat like crazy for some reason (never overclocked), i returned it and my new one is stable however still overheats somtimes. Amms also has a leadtek geforce 2 pro (a newer build) and its even worse than mine, the only way you can use it without it locking up is with a huge desktop fan sitting right next to it. I cant be sure about other leadtek cards (maybe they went with a dodgy design on the pro, despite the bloody huge hsf), however, i dont think ill trust leadtek when i upgrade to my gf4 4200.

Can't you guys read

I cannot afford $600+ on a video card.

F*****g hell, I didn't ask what brands, I asked if I'd see a noticable difference between my current card and the listed card.

I'm not about to go fork out half of what my PC is worth on one piece of hardware. God damn.

How long do you reckon you'll want to keep your video card for? If it's 12 months or less then who cares if it's a Leadtek. If it fails it's still under warranty - sure it's a pain in the arse getting a warranty claim through but it should be honoured. If you want to keep it for a couple years then you should start thinking a more "renowned" brand. But personally I've have no problems with the cheaper brands.

I'll be holding onto it from anywhere from 6 to 24 months. So even with a 12 month warranty, I can always go back to a GeForce2 or something, its not a big deal!

Heck in twelve months time the GF4MX should be cheap as the GF2MX is now. If it was me I'd buy the Leadtek - with your 1.1gig Athlon a GF3 Ti200 should kick considerable ass :) You might have a problem sourcing one though. A lot of the stores don't list them anymore.

The only thing is you'll do like most of us - increase the resolution you play at or turn on anti-aliasing so you won't see huge framerate increases. But at least your games will look a shedload better ;)

I would definately reccomend you go Winfast/Leadtek, i have a Winfast GF2 Ti, works great never one problem at all and it performs nicely.

you buy hercules/asus you are paying for the name and a few other little bits of crap you wont use like TV in/out most probably

I also have owned 2 Asus GF2mx's a 400 and a 200, the 400 was a lot of trouble.

So yeah id definately go for the cheaper alternative, nothing wrong with Winfast its a little cain0r in my system :)

Would I notice a major difference between a Asus V7100 GeForce 2MX 32MB and a LeadTek Winfast GeForce3 TI200 ??

I had a hercules geforce2 mx, and i used to get 99fps @ 800x600, (counterstrike) but with lots of people or lots of s*** happening ie, smoke, it would dip under 50's.

When I brought my Ledtek Geforce3 ti200, i was pretty happy with it, easy install, not a problem to the least. Thing is, most GF3's all have about the samish performance. I have not tweaked or over clocked my card, and i play cs 1280x960.

But yer, it will make a huge difference.

I know of a place that is running 20 Leadtek GF3 Ti200's and they don't seem to have a problem and it runs pretty fast for all games.
Even AVP2.
I also think those cards come with TV out.

But sif you wouldn't get a ATi Radeon 8500 for an extra fiddy bucks.
