For me personally growing up first with a sega mega drive and then through the series of PlayStation consoles it was always a case of just having an epic amount of fun first and foremost but looking at it from other angles I realised there was many other aspects to it including the social side when playing with my mates and distraction from the real world like doing my studies. Why do you game and or compete??

I started playing Pong on my Atari back in the day because I knew there would come a time when I could make money playing it. I'm still waiting for the Pong Tournaments to start.

Pure escapism. Atmospheric, story-driven single player games are my favourite.
|
i prefer fpot when he was a hacker in CS
|
to pwn noobz Same reason I drink, to stave off existential dread. Cause TV is s***. Pure escapism. This. Also it's cheaper than going out in the evenings. |
to make myself attractive to hawt slarts To get teh babes man. |
Same reason I hiked 4,300 km from Mexico to Canada; To fill gaps in the meaningless void we call life.
|
Same as fpot but chuck in geeky af 4X along with the single player.
|
Yeah, what fpot said, at the core of it its escapism. Same reason I watch a movie or read a book, something that fires up my imagination and lets me live in another world for a bit.

Because i am a badass MF that only plays souls games now
Some might say masochist |
Played through Nioh yet, pave? It's basically samurai dark souls.
Wish it had invasions though. |
To cap airfield and piss off the airhead jet pilots.
|
and then stab hem in the face when they bail on airfield like they think I cant see them.
|
I do because I like seeing how especially good balanced games bring a sense of satisfaction and enjoyment when playing them for the first time or the 100th, if it connects with your sensibility or what ever it is that is enjoyment
i think games that teach you something in a different way than you knew, that can manage to innovate visually and have great story writing; just like more traditional media these are the qualities that we find universally interesting |
Because i am a badass MF that only plays souls games now i like that you introduced me to souls, but now im better than you at them. (jacko counts as me) |
I am glad that you have accepted you are trash at it.
|

bloodborne is dumb, so we dont play it. Yes matey, the same 'i am bad' cover excuses i keep hearing we finished ds3 ages ago bro. to pwn noobz To stave off existential dread. Cause TV is s***. Pure escapism. This. Plus, it's all I know and it's all I got. |
I was always interested in games, computers and technology. When I was working in an extremely stressful job it was a great release to escape to at the end of a day. Plus I really wanted to shoot someone, and if I did it at work I'd get into trouble! :) But eventually I loved it because of all the crazy bastards you met at lans and gaming was a s***load of fun when you actually met the guy you had been pawning for several months or who had been cleaning you up in Quake CTF every bloody night. Plus you got to see Trog in his bandanna and that was hell funny.

for the possibility of meeting better peeps, and to keep my finger on the pulse of some tech that I won't always have access to myself anymore.
some industry info from decent local peeps is always good too. I'm thankful to be able to meet all kinds of people who work in all kinds of industries. Trog for PM |
