Awesome movie! Tom Hanks comes with the goods, and the guy who plays Muse.... just wow.. by the end of it I was actually genuinely feeling really sorry for him.

Movie of the year for me.

i'm sure it's a great movie but the fact it is apparently nothing like what actually happened and captain phillips was actually an incompetant a****** kind of ruins it for me.

A Hijacking or "Kapringen" (original title)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2216240/

is a 2012 Danish thriller film written and directed by Tobias Lindholm based on the same events where the crew of a Danish cargo ship is hijacked by Somali pirates.

"A tense, gripping thriller, A Hijacking avoids action movie cliches and instead creates a palpable sense of dread by mixing gritty realism" and i believe tells a much more realistic account of what occurred.

Captain Phillips is more the "Hollywood" adaptation of the events. I've seen the Danish version but i haven't seen the tom hanks one yet so i will let you know if that is how it is

Oh man, that last scene. Almost had me in tears. I'm still not sure about the overall quality of the movie. At times it was a bit predictable and I did feel a tad bored. I think I just had unreal expectations after reading all the reviews. But regardless I still recommend going to watch it. 7/10 for me.

THIS. Prisoners was pretty hectic. The whole movie I was captivated. The acting was pretty outstanding. I rarely go to the cinemas and these two are the only movies I've seen of late as I typically just wait for them to come out elsewhere. But I'm actually fairly keen to watch prisoners again when it comes out at home.

Once I left the cinemas I was still trying to process what I'd just witnessed.
I love the movies that cause me to still question parts of the movie after I've left, not so much in confusion, but more so connecting the pieces e.g. "that's why that person said that" or "ohh so they did that because of this". But you still understand what's occurring while you're watching the film. It just adds to the movie for me.
In my opinion, a perfect thriller. 10/10

134mins google says. Good value if the movie is entertaining compared to paying the same for a <90min flick.

Yeah good example. 2 much story, and needed MA violence IMO

Tarantino movies come to mind as long but good. I think because of the solid mix of dialogue, story, action, violence.

Other longer movies i liked and can recall - saving private ryan, thin red line, prometheus, oblivion, castaway, avatar.

Yeah, hes past 40 now. A midday session of captain phillips would last ~3hrs then by the time the bus/subsidised taxi gets him home its dinner @ 4.30 then bed shortly after.

I enjoyed it. It was a little long, but the very last scene with Tom was the most emotional I've seen any actor in these sort of "begin rescued" outros. My eyes were tearing up.

A nice movie, but it's probably the weakest out of the Oscar nominated movies. However, Tom Hanks' performance was indeed astounding especially the final scenes. He was robbed of an Oscar nom there

I agree, I find it a little too long and the pacing at times can be boring. However, still a very good movie!

Watched it a few weeks ago and was reasonably entertained. Don't know if it's movie of the year worthy but was good enough entertainment for a couple of hours.
