I've just watched the first few eps and it sucks. I wouldn't bother watching it if I were you guys. Looks like season 3 is gonna suck hard!

I've read the books and I must admit I like the creative licence the producers have taken with the series.

Au contraire, I'm SO GLAD I got ahead of the TV series. Imagining characters is no problem for my super-brain and the books are f*****g tedious when you know what's going to happen, the TV guys in general stick to the script pretty tightly for almost all major events.

The book was more of a fleshing out of the world I'd already started to like through the series.

It built on characters and let me get further inside their heads than what I'd seen in the series.

I actually found the books MORE enjoyable, having already known some of what had happened (S1/2), and that gave me a platform to step off into the books *shrug*

And I'm sure you could "imagine" the characters to some extent, sure. But when you've watched 2 seasons of a show with the characters, it makes it cemented in your mind what they look like, so it's easier to picture them and what they're doing in the books imo.

I found a HBO linux distro earlier and it downloaded in <15 mins. It had like 100k seeds or something ridiculous.

Always seems to be plenty of bandwidth on those HBO linux distro's.

I am in shock, I just....don't know what to think. There goes 1/3 of the show for me, aside from Tyrion and Jon Snow. Bran and Khalessi I am not interested in at the moment. One more episode then us non-book readers will have to wait til April next year to see more of the reactions and repercussions.

Is everything portrayed in the TV series about Khalessi the same in the books? Her getting the slave army was awesome and freeing them was cool too but then she gets the bastards as well because she's so beautiful? comeon that was a bit too much.

That is an utterly depressing prospect from a story point of view, but I wouldn't rule it out.
I guess all the audience/readers really need is some closure though, whatever the outcome.

Agree 100%. Even the "good guys" are flawed in large ways. Catelyn was so over-protective and rash that she started a war. Ned was so proud that he got himself killed rather than dishonour himself. Just about the only "good" people left are Tyrion (who even so is great at making people do violence for him) and Sansa.

this is something i really like about the series, in most TV shows, no matter how tense things get you know the hero's will always come out ok.. it kinda take away from the tension..

Whereas in Game of Thrones when s*** gets tense, it really gets tense and you really don't know if they will live or die.. gives it that gives the story more impact I think.

Agreed. That's also the reason I love the books / series. I've NEVER been affected by any other thing I've watched / read like I have been with the GoT and for that reason I'll remember the story until the day I die (unless I die senile...)

There aren't any other movies that have made me feel like that, because the good guy always pulls through (well, 99.99% of the time).

The Stark's have caused thousands of people to die on both sides, because they wanted revenge for Ned's death. I know they are kind of portrayed as being "good" but I think its more accurate to consider them as just being more transparent ("honest") about their motives.

Its probably not a spoiler to say that both "good" and "bad" characters will continue to die and/or get screwed over.

FWIW Tyrion had basically his entire nose cut off in the book during the Kings Landing battle; for obvious reasons they have just given him a scar instead on TV - there is a pithy comment about that in the show, something like "I heard you had lost your nose".

Khaleesi's TV story feels more or less identical to the book in terms of how she is building up her army.

I guess if you want to look at it that way.

Basically the world used to be full of magic but it was essentially snuffed out due to wars and powers such as being a warg isn't clan specific.

Something of a side note that was mentioned in the books early on was that as rich as the Lannisters were, there was something they could never buy no matter how much they offered, a Valaryian steel sword.

Yet when Neddy Stark body parts ways with his head, the Lannisters somehow easily reforge his valyrian steel sword Ice into two new blades.

I think it's more that they don't know how to create it, not that they can't work it a little bit.

Also, I'm not sure that's a spoiler tag, since it is season 1 stuff that seemed to be skipped over in the series.

I think its still north of the wall.. cause if I remember correctly, it didn't go with him when he joined the wildlings so it must have stayed with the crows except when they returned from the north I don't remember it being with them.

Just finished watching episode 9. Managed to get through most of the last couple of weeks without spoilers.

My guess as to what will eventually follow:

Currently alive unmarried Girl Stark will spend the next 10 years or so learning to be a badass killer by the Braavosi.
Bran Stark will find his 3 eyed raven to be a sorcerer type sage who will teach him to use his potential warg skills to its fullest, over 10 years.
Little brother stark will go learn to be a good swordsman from the people he is going to stay with.
Theon Grayjoy I have no idea what is going to happen there, it looks as if he is being molded to be real man instead of a bumbling idiot.

Sansa is going to flip out and kill Jeoffry, hopefully with his own crossbow.

Jammie is going to be thoroughly disappointed when he gets back to his daddy and finds out daddy ignores him because he is now 'useless' without his sword hand. Don't know what will happen, same with the really tall knight lady, dunno what will happen with her.

I hope Tyrion Lannister finally gets over his daddy issues and decides to kick his arse in the battlefield, probably at the murder of his whore lover.

O and just as the Lannisters are mopping up what is left of the North after Robby is out of the picture Daenerys Targaryen will come in around Westeros and start kicking some arse, leaving what is left of the North as a buffer against the upcoming Whitewalker March. I expect the Ice Wall to be smashed down by some huge force of power. Piggy will take his knowledge that obsidian kills whitewalkers to someone important and spend the remainder of his time as a Gandelf like character. In the episode he left the Obsidian dagger in the ground when he ran off, I'm not sure if this was an oversight and he actually grabbed it before running off, or if the dagger is now ignored and other obsidian weapons will be made/found.

All this is pure guesswork.
