I'll be doing a tour of duty through JBs today and Im likely going to buy a new TV. Looking at 50"+ up to around $1500
Anyone picked one up good deal ? Post reciept pics for any supernatural claims plz. |
Should be able to get a 50" Panasonic plasma for under $1k.
|
I am heading out soon, I want to grab a surround sound package but if there are other bargains going I'll grab other s*** :D
My flatmate has a printer that needs new ink, I told him it'd be cheaper to buy a new printer then new ink!! Brother Laser (2130) is $42 - flatmate only has an inkjet I think it is, that'd be up near $100 for ink... p.s. get a LED from Samsung Series 7 or better yo |
WoW have a 60" Lg Plasma for $999
no idea what model though. Lg 50" 3d Plasma $793 @WoW Might go to WoW first then JBs. |
I had a look around yesterday and damn there were some good deals,
|
Faceman - what kind of TV are you looking for? There are PLENTY of crazy prices going on in the 55's and 60's
|
p.s. get a LED from Samsung Series 7 or better yo While I don't have a series 7, I've got a series 4 and 5 I think and they are good TVs. |
i just bought a panasonic GT30 full 3d etc tv - plasma
I chose the pana because of superior reviews on Whirlpool and other places... but why plasma? i was actually going to buy either the samsung LED unbelievably nice screen something 8000 or the pana.... and was half persuaded to the samsung until i said the magic word... play me some sport! watching One HD and a game of soccer... every time they passed the ball and the camera "panned" the whole screen blurred wtf! bought the panasonic and all my friends are like ... WHOA awesome screen, awesome pic quality etc :) |
JB is still cheaper than WOW - I have checked it all out on boxing day - my job as a Sales Manager ;)
Also - Good guys have the Samsung 55" LED 6000 series for $1499 - ask JB to match it - s*** hot LED! |
I need a new TV, but I think I will have to wait until next year sadly.
|
JB is still cheaper than WOW - I have checked it all out on boxing day - my job as a Sales Manager ;)Do you still work over at Toowoomba? |
I grabbed this http://goo.gl/IJVW8 Sammy Surround Sound, RRP on site is $699 sticker price was $549 I asked the guy what's the best price he could do as I was buying today. Come back at said $395, BAM done!!
I said I'll collect from pickup later, had other things to look at, get to the depot and they had given it away so I hammed it up and got another $45 off and free delivery, $350 for a surround system is damn good. I do want a full component system BUT I am in a unit so this will be more then enough IMO. |
my mate bought that one yesterday and its perfectly fine for $1k |
I nearly got the 55" Hi-Sense(mostly because i cant fit a 60 in) for $895 JB
But the line-up was like 20+ ppl waiting so i gave up. They had a 60" Lg Plasma i think for $995 had 3D (I think 3D is gay though I havent seen Sport in 3D yet) The 55" hi-Sense is great value. comes with a 3 year full in-home replacement if you have a problem. extremely low power use too. great picture. I think SD Foxtel/FreeToAir looks better on LED/LCD |
just buy what you think looks best.
Keep in mind, they might have the display settings on "DYNAMIC" or whatever looks super colourful, but when you get it home - thats not what you're going to want. Check the TV's are on "standard" picture settings and have a listen to the built in sound (especially if you're not getting surround sound) most people dont use surround sound for TV. |
samsung 40' lcd/led tv - $600 Yeah uh, care to share where you bought it from champ? |
For the past month JB has had the Samsung series7 LED priced at just under $2700...I went in there yesterday and the price was jacked back up to $2999. C****.
|
Scotty. There's a 60" Panasonic plasma at JB's for $2200. Don't listen to all the plasma haters. The picture is lovely and even the sound is good when you're piping stuff across from your PC. Obviously, for bluray s***, you'll want a dedicated system for that.
|
Yeah Blu-ray + >= 50" Plasma == f*****g eye candy. Bonus point if the said Plasma has been adjusted so the colour is not all f*****g in "dynamic" mode i.e. colour and contrast all the way up.
I'm so itching to get a new screen > 55"..... specially when the prices are f*****g insaaaaaaanely cheap for Plasma.. Am kicking myself that I bought a small 32" LED a few months ago (cheap for the bedroom now the remote is f***ed :/).. I should've just move the current one into the bedroom and get a masssive one instead *sigh* Enjoy your new toy Faceman. |
might wait till just before NRL starts and go to Foxtel HD.
Foxtel are about to launch 1 terabyte iQs (shhhhhh its a big secret) so they might be offering some sweet deals. Id kind of like to make 1 room a mini cinema with 60"/50" keep my current one for general viewing. anyone done something like that ? |
err they are advertising the 1tb thing already
either that or I got an email, because I've read about it a week or two back... Foxtel HD is sex |

picked this up yesterday. seems to go good for the price |
picked up a 50" ST Panasonic Plasma for $899
gg |
I'm looking to grab the 60" Panasonic ST30 3D for $899 tomorrow morning from JBhifi.
Great price however problem is, the glasses are $167 ea, he'll do four glasses for $148 ea. I would like four glasses as we have four lazyboys in the media room. So that adds an extra $600 dollars on just for glasses. Total is then $1499. Can I get cheaper glasses? I've had a look on Amazon and ebay etc but are the 3rd party glasses as good or better than genuine panasonic ones? ie, do active shutter glasses work on any active shutter TV? I've found 3rd party active shutter 3d glasses for $30 will these fulfil my wildest dreams or is their no substitute for the real MaCoy? |
3D is very gay.
Watching 3D with 3 other ppl ? it doesnt really work unless you are directly in front. |
I've got a 50" pana in the media room and a 50" LG in the bedroom above the built in robes, I can't justify money for a bigger screen, but I can to go 3D :) More to the point the 3D TV is a gift, therefore lets go 3d and at the same time bigger to 60"
Then the pana 50" can go in the lounge or out on the patio and the 3d in the media room. I just hope it will hang on the wall without some expensive wall bracket. Should be able to use the old one as it's heavy as all hell. I was never really that interested in 3d but I've been impressed with what I've seen in the shops. Yes Faceman, we watch movies with other people, also sometimes we talk to them. We have other couples often and can fairly often end up watching a movie at some point. Bullshizzal Faceman, I've been checking them out the good ones have an incredible "field of 3D"horizontal but not vertical but that won't be a problem unless your lying down on the floor or hanging from the roof. So.. now that I've somewhat justified my position, how bout those active shutter 3D glasses ay :) Does no one want a 3D TV? |
will an $900 TV have awesome FOV ?
try it out before you buy it just in case. |
I don't know yet Faceman that's why I'm going in tomorrow to check the TV out first.
I know full well I may not be happy with it and will check out other TVs while I'm there. But I need the full picture to make a proper decision when comparing so... Again I ask, does any one know if active shutter 3d glasses are brand specific or if 3rd party ones are as good or even better? |
I really cant get excited about current 3D TV's. I did see a good one at the March Home show this year. It just used Polarized glasses like at the movies. It was the clearest I've seen but was 4 times the price of others.
I still haven’t checked out LG's version of this (only needing Polarized glasses) but I know I will never be interested in the ones that need batteries to take advantage of the 3D. |
3D tv's are good, it's just that there's nothing really worth watching on them. There are only three movies so far that I thought have looked awesome in 3D that I have seen. They are Tangled, Avatar and Tron Legacy.
The biggest downfall with 3D is the glasses. They need to come up with a set of glasses that have one continuous lens from left to right. Not two separate lenses like they do now. Having two lenses makes things distracting and you can see the rims too easily which is annoying. What they need is something like those visors firemen wear to protect their face. Something huge like that so you don't see anything but the screen in front of you. Also, watching 3D stuff during the day sucks if there is light anywhere in the room. Even closing the curtains doesn't do enough to stop it from being annoying seeing light from your peripheral vision. A dark room is best. |
Maybe I should wait for one of these ?
