A few places (
like IGN) are reporting that WarCraft 3 is shattering the sales barrier, becoming the fastest selling PC game ever with over a million units sold already. Seems to be doing pretty well locally as well with many people getting into it in a fairly big way. I've given it a quick go and while I still suck at it I'm looking forward to some more multiplayer bashings of it.

Wc3 on the other hand I'm having a ball with, been playing it heaps since I picked it up a few weeks ago. And unlike the single player in nwn, the single player in wc3 is actually fun and doesn't totally suck! Also, multiplayer rocks too.

and the comp was great

and even if i did, i'd still think that it was rediculous how the game is fully rendered in 3d, but you can't rotate the camera to appreciate it
Didn't like nwn single player khel? personally i found wc3 single player to be ass

I dont know why you'd want to rotate it though, I've never once felt the desire to rotate the camera in wc3, it would probably just be too disorientating if I did.
I didn't like nwn single player because they seem to equate "role playing" with "talking to s***loads of npcs about f*** all". It just bored the pants off me, I dont think I've even bothered finishing the first chapter yet.
Wc3 single player rocks though, its got a cool story, its fun, lots of funky heroes to play with, always new and different things to do in each mission (ie, not the same "build a base and go kill that guy" objective for EVERY level, as in most other rts games), it just rocks. I also like how in some missions you start with a premade base, that was really cool cos one of the things that usually puts me off rts games is having to rebuild from scratch at the start of each new level.

Medieval on the other hand... now that's some new and interesting stuff. Preview coming soon (later today hopefully) but it is a really interesting concept. Not sure how multiplayer is going to go - I think it is too complex for most people.

Wc3 adds enough new stuff to the series to keep me interested. Its 3d for a start, jor graphics, more emphasis on using your units to their full potential and not throwing them away and wasting them (due to the lower food limit), heroes and everything that goes along with them (levelling them up, looting cool items, etc), and a cool single player game with a cool plot that carries over a number of campaigns where you get to use all the different races.
Plus, playing on battlenet is pretty cool (even if there are lots of f****s there using gay tactics).
Haha, that from an everquest player.

One thing that Dark Reign had built-in (but not used in the base game - its prolly been in a zillion other games as well) was the concept of veteran units. Ie, a unit that wins an engagement becomes a veteran, and you could have various levels of veteran-ness. This is obviously what a hero is, but added to that the heroes have inventory, etc. I would have liked to see veteran units in War3 for the general units (I think Medieval has veteran units but without a manual I can't tell what all the icons mean!@#) - even more incentive to think tactically and attack carefully, to try and preserve your green troops so that they grow and become more powerful. Obviously the biggest hitch here is balance issues, but anyway, I think its vaguely interesting. If Blizzard weren't d**** and made their game more moddable, it'd be cool to see some tweaks along these lines.

e.g. There are times when I would like to play without heroes, and just play basic RTS. Also, I wish there was a way to stop rushing d****. I am the sort of person that likes to build up a great base. I would happily spend about half/hour building my base, getting resources, without ever seeing an enemy unit.
Ta for the rotate controls, I never knew that. I always thought it wierd too, that you couldn't but alas, you can. Anyway, I doubt I ever will, it wll just confuse me, and you don't really need to anyway. I guess that is why Blizzard didn't make a big deal of it.

Oh well, if you want to team up for an arranged game i'm on USWest, name is Phatphal. Just message me when I get on, which is basically every night hehe.
First impression of the game was that it was the same old but now that I've played 50 multiplayer games and finished the single player on normal I realise that there is a heavy emphasis * spelling * on heroes and strategy. The computer will rip your ass in 2 when you play it on a custom map for the first few times so its alot fun and its challenging. I'm bored...yawn * looks at clock waiting for go home time *

rush tacs are fn annoying

:(
oh well, its not like i had a repuation of intelligence to maintain :P
anyway khel, you dont have to talk to npcs that much in nwn
if you want to, you can just run through the game doing the main quests and ignoring all the s*** little ones if you want, its a very flexible campaign, and there are lots of decisions you can make (although i haven't got all that far so i'm not sure what effect they have)
coolest thing in nwn is all the spells though... so many rad ones
i like the cleric best so far, ive got a barbarian and a monk/fighter as well, but they're kinda boring coz they don't have mad skills, they just hack n slash :(

You can see the 3 dimension side of it by moving the screen. Notice the perspective on things change?
You can see behind a pillar if you move to the right and so forth.
Apart from the improved graphics, warcraft 3 opens up alot of possibilities in the Modification scene. Like Starcraft alot of people only play the MOD/CUSTOM Games. Now with its advanced map design and scripting system, you can create an RPG game, a Strategy Game, even a racing sim.
It also has updated the Interface controls, allowing for more intricate and controlled unit management.
Theres still a few minor bugs, but it has come along way.
The difference between warcraft III and other rts's currently out is quite noticable, graphics, advanced AI, multiplayer support network(battle.net), race balance, advanced user interface, extremely detailed and evolved storyline, few bugs and even a detailed map editor with so many scripting and feature options, you can create a whole new game (as a few people have already done).
As for the people who say FPS is better than RTS or RTS is better than Turn Based Games... I think your pretty narrow minded.
Its like comparing apples and oranges. It depends on your taste.
You cant even argue that one requires you to think more, as in my experience I have seen people so involved in a FPS you would swear they were concentrating harder than I ever had in an RTS.
