Melbourne ISP Alphalink has announced that it will be providing 11mbit wireless broardband from as little as $27.50 a month.
According to Brett, The network would be a meshed 802.11a and 802.11b network made up of a 54Mb/s backbone and 11Mb/s client access points transmitting over short distances. There would not be any central transmitting towers often required by traditional wireless networks.
Another interesting point is that this type of network will run totally seperate of any Telstra equipment unlike majority of broardband providers offerings. More can be read over at Whirlpool
