So much so that developer CD Projekt Red notes that all of the updates will we be released to owners of the base game as a separate patch if they choose not to revisit Night City and the new district of Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Described as a spy thriller, the latest trailer is impressive stuff.

Out September 26 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to a new star-studded story featuring the return of Keanu Reeves and the arrival of Idris Elba, some of the changes and overhauls to base game sound incredible.

In Phantom Liberty, players once again take on the role of V, a cyberpunk for hire, as they embark on a mission to save the President of the New United States of America after her orbital shuttle is shot down over the deadliest district of Night City — Dogtown. What follows is a deep dive into an intricate story of espionage and political intrigue which connects the highest echelons of power with the brutal world of black-market mercenaries. The stakes are larger than life, but so is the reward — your very survival.

Speaking with VGC, creative director Pawel Sasko notes that no part of the game has been left untouched during the development of Phantom Liberty. The perk and skill trees have been completely rebuilt, vehicle combat has been added, enemy and NPC AI has been overhauled, there's an actual policing system in the game now, the difficulty has been rebalanced, and even the UI has been changed.

Night City itself will be more dynamic, with unrelated car chases happening, and factions will fight each other. Cyberpunk 2077 has received several substantial patches and updates since its 2020 debut, and the game is in a pretty great state right now. It sounds like Phantom Liberty will leave the game on a very high note.
