Though players will still be able to play the game online for the foreseeable future. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix
Marvel's Avengers was both a critical and commercial failure as it attempted to bring a dose of superhero action to the always online and evolving live service genre of action-RPGs.
And now we've got confirmation
from the development team that official support for the game is ending in September, with the final update to the game Update 2.8 coming on March 31, 2023. This will be a balance update only, so there will be no more new content. The update will also disable the cosmetics marketplace.
"As a show of our appreciation for our community, starting March 31, 2023 we will make all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content available to all players for free," writes Crystal Dynamics. "Every single Outfit, Takedown, Emote, and Nameplate from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards, and Shipments will be free for all players from this date onwards if you own a copy of the game. Gifting the full library of Marketplace cosmetic content is a way to thank our community by letting everyone experience the breadth and depth of content in Marvel’s Avengers."
"All official support for the game will end on September 30, 2023," Crystal Dynamics continues. Noting that the decision to cancel support was made in conjunction with Square Enix, and that it can't guarantee it will be able to address any issues after this date. Or, just how long online multiplayer will remain active.
