Ubisoft's Skull and Bones has seemingly been in development forever, having been announced all the way back in 2017. No new release date has been set other than the info that it "will now be released early 2023-24". This puts its new release date somewhere between April 2023 to March 2024.

This news arrived as part of a new financial report outlining Ubisoft's future. Where recent sales for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023 resulted in "lower-than-expected performance". And with that Ubisoft has canceled three unannounced titles and is depreciating "around €500m of capitalized R&D". This means a change in focus for the publisher as outlined below.

“Our decisive reaction and our additional cost optimization measures should help us navigate the current challenging economic environment and ensure a leaner organization for the years to come," Frédéric Duguet, Chief Financial Officer, said. "Leveraging the biggest pipeline of games in the Ubisoft’s history, 2023-24 will see the releases of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones and other yet-to-be-announced premium games, including a large one, as well as promising Free-to-Play titles for some of our biggest brands."

As for Skull and Bones, Ubisoft notes that the additional development time will improve the game's quality, polish, and overall balance. "We believe players will be positively surprised by its evolution", the report says noting that the upcoming beta phase for the game will showcase its evolution.
