The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's free "next-gen" update is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 14, and developer CD Projekt Red has detailed what to expect alongside debuting a very impressive 4K trailer. With new ray-tracing features, improved visuals and performance (DLSS 3 and FSR support are coming), bug fixes, a photo mode, and even new content inspired by the Netflix series.

It's a massive definitive edition style update, and best of all it's free to all players. Here's a look at what to expect, and yeah, the environments look stunning - no doubt bolstered by the new ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion for the PC version.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X there will be two modes, a 60-fps Performance mode and 30-fps with ray-traced ambient occlusion. And there will be cross-progression between console and PC ala Cyberpunk 2077's recent update. The visual updates extend beyond RT, with new and improved screen-space reflections and what looks to be more detail in foliage, environments, and textures.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed a number of bug fixes coming to various quests, a new and improved UI with additional camera modes, an official photo mode, and even mod integration for community-made creations. Very cool. Plus, there's a brand-new quest inspired by the Netflix show.

For a deeper look at what's coming be sure to watch this 30-minute stream.
