With Netflix clarifying that it will be an "adult animated series", no doubt on account of the Lancer guns with chainsaws attached to them. The surprise Gears of War announcement was made overnight with Netflix confirming that it will "adapt the video game saga into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with the potential for more stories to follow".

With its description of "Delta Squad, a ragtag fireteam led by disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix" it sounds like the events of the live-action film will follow those of the first game - or at least be inspired by. The artwork accompanying the announcement also features Marcus Fenix.

Currently, Xbox first-party studio The Coalition is developing Gears 6 using Unreal Engine 5 - and based on just how stunning Gears 5 still looks, it's set to be a visual showcase for the Xbox Series X. There's no word on when the next mainline game in the series will arrive, but there's a chance its release could line-up with Netflix's Gears movie.
