Veteran developer Warren Spector had a hand in creating System Shock back in 1994 but is probably best known for his work at Ion Storm where he directed the seminal Deus Ex. Plus, he also had a hand in developing the very first game in the Thief series. And now he’s back with a new game, called
Argos: Riders on the Storm.
As per a
new interview with IGN, we know that it will again be an immersive sim like Deus Ex and Thief, but with the addition of multiplayer.
“I’ve been thinking for years now, ‘What is the next step in immersive sims?’ I think I've figured that out,” Warren Spector explains. Although doesn’t really go into any detail about the mechanics or even setting outside of the mysterious title and possible connection to Dungeons & Dragons. “I am a firm believer that every game has to have one thing that no one’s ever seen or done in a game before,” Spector said. “I promise you that the game we’re working on now will do that.”
The new title is in development over at OtherSide Entertainment, the studio that released 2018’s Ultima Underworld-inspired Underworld Ascendant. As for the new game, Spector name drops Deep Rock Galactic and Dying Light 2 as games the team is currently playing, adding, “If people want ‘unique and innovative', even I look at what we’re doing and think we’re crazy. The team is accomplishing more than I asked.”
Cryptic and exciting, we’ll have more info on Argos: Riders on the Storm as it’s made available.
