Announced today,
Marvel Games and
EA have teamed up to start pre-production on an
Iron Man videogame, based on the popular Marvel character. Development will be handled by
EA Motive who is currently putting the (hopefully) final touches on a
Dead Space remaster (or reboot, if you like), while having also worked on another licensed property in
Star Wars: Squadrons.
As implied by our header, EA's shoot-for-the-moon
Destiny clone,
Anthem,
for all its failings, early on had people muttering how it could be used as something of a starting point for an Iron Man game done properly. And while that game was developed by
BioWare, that it's all in-house gives us some hope that learnings and actual triumphs from the Anthem tilt could be leveraged here.
At a stretch, we can also add that Motive's current work on the Dead Space remaster has them comfortable with characters wrapped in armour.
Here's some
official information:
We’re thrilled to share that an all-new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man video game is now in early development at Montreal-based Motive Studio. The team is being led by Olivier Proulx, who brings experience working on past Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is joined by a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans including Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio.
Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.
Not to heap too much pressure on the people named and involved, but with
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy a part of the pedigree making up this new effort, alongside everything already mentioned in this post, we kind of have some high hopes.
More on this as it becomes available.
