Atomic Heart's hype train understandably pulled up to a stop and never kept moving when the war in Ukraine began. However, developer Mundfish, who is a Russian-based studio, has remained at work and the game made a quiet showing earlier in the year as part of a chart showcasing all the games releasing in 2022 during an Xbox media briefing.
Now, as part of Gamescom, the studio has dropped its first official trailer in months, detailing the game's impressive-looking combat while also showing off arguably more than in any other previous videos. And the results are... impressive.
Here's an official spiel on proceedings:
A system failure at Soviet Facility № 3826 leads machinery to rebel against the people. You are Major P-3, Private Agent, and your task is to minimize the consequences of this 'systems failure' and prevent the leakage of classified information.
To succeed, you'll have to do your homework and study every deadly foe to avoid becoming their next victim, for secret experiments have led to the emergence of terrifying mutants, implacable machines, and bloodthirsty creatures.
Currently Atomic Heart is slated to release in "Q4 2022". The earlier-mentioned chart appearance had the game releasing on console in September, and just before the Ukraine invasion the team had released a trailer teasing a release date anywhere between September and December. As this is the first official showing in some time, it would make sense that one of the next two months is its intended release window.
