Turns out Stray can go RTX On. The highly anticipated game was released last month on PlayStation and PC, where its cyberpunk cat adventure impressed and mesmerised real felines the world over. Its futuristic world presented some stunning locales to explore too, with bright neon lighting with great art direction. And you can make it look even better and enable ray-tracing on the PC version with a simple command line.

All you need to do is add -dx12 to the launch parameters in Steam, which enables highly detailed ray-traced reflections and shadows. Possibly more too as with the effect turned on, even on a GeForce RTX 3090 powered rig the frame-rate is halved.

But the results are impressive. Subtle in a lot of ways but it adds a very realistic and cinematic sheen - as more surfaces are reflective and shadows behave realistically.

The detail in the shadows in particular work wonders with the more accurate reflections, making the already impressive Stray look like a ray-tracing tech demo.

Here's hoping that developer BlueTwelve Studio and Annapurna Interactive officially update the game to add ray-tracing in the near future, as Stray with RTX On looks awesome. And here's hoping that it arrives with DLSS support to ensure the performance remains in the 60-fps region.
