Dark Passenger is a Polish-based studio with animation, cinematic, character and world credits that include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. Dark Passenger's co-founders, Jakub Ben and Marcin Michalski, were at CD Projekt RED for The Witcher 3 and its expansion, and then were outsourced partners on Cyberpunk 2077.
As per the studio's official site, its first game is set in Feudal Japan and is in the "first production stage".
"When making our first game, we’re focused on creating engaging experiences and stories," it says. "We’re building a captivating, dark world full of mysteries, extraordinary characters and tense conflicts that are consuming the Land of the Cherry Blossom."
As for the style of game it will be multiplayer, with PVP and PVE elements built using Unreal Engine 5. Where it gets interesting comes with the implementation of a "locomotion system" for the playable shinobi and kunoichi warriors. One that will "allow players to perform incredible evolutions such as running on arrows that were fired by other players, fast climbing on vertical surfaces with the use of shuko claws or using yari spear like a pole to jump over obstacles". Very cool.
Players will be able to create and customise their own Dojo and with the focus on close-range combat, period-specific weaponry will also be fully customisable. The as-yet untitled project is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X.
With production kicking off the studio is also hiring, so be sure to check out the Dark Passenger site
