Daedalic Entertainment has taken to Twitter to announce that its long-in-development stealth-action game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed and won't be hitting its planned September release date. The September 1 date was only revealed a few months ago, with the developer noting that the release has been pushed back "by a few months" so it can "deliver the best possible experience".

"We are dedicated to meeting our community's expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien," the announcement says. "That being said, in order to deliver the best possible experience, we've decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We will update you with an exact timing in the near future."

This is a strange one, as even though the game was announced a few years ago we only got our first look at gameplay earlier this month. The overall response has been mixed with many pointing to the visuals as being dated. Take a look.

No word yet, but a delay by a few months could see The Lord of the Rings: Gollum debut sometime in early 2023.
