With Avatar: The Way of Water coming to cinemas later this year, the first of many planned sequels from director James Cameron, it was expected that Ubisoft and Division developer Massive's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would also make its debut this holiday season. That's no longer the case.

As part of a new financial report Ubisoft has confirmed that the game has been delayed. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is now on track for release sometime during the 2023-24 financial period.

"We are committed to delivering a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology, as this amazing global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft," the delay announcement states. Noting that like with multiple feature films planned, Ubisoft's Avatar investment could also lead to multiple games.

The report also notes that Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (October 20) and Skull and Bones (November 8) will be the publisher's big releases for 2022. And with that, the publisher is teasing Ubisoft Forward on September 10 as the place we'll learn about what's next for the Assassin's Creed franchise.
