Lionhead Studios released the classic movie studio management sim The Movies back in 2005, which in addition to putting you in charge of a studio let you actually make the movies and export them as little viewable cinematic shorts. It's a shame there hasn't been anything like it since, with indie outfit Odyssey Studios looking to change that with Moviehouse.
In Moviehouse, you're tasked with nurturing a fledgling movie studio in the 1980s, growing the crew, skillset, and film savvy throughout the decades all the way through to modern-day. Utilize new techniques, advancements in filming technology, and gain a keen eye for setting the right scene and how to market your soon-to-be blockbuster.
“Our team is delighted to bring our very first title to life,” said Niklāvs Strads, founder of Odyssey Studios. “We set out to capture the excitement of what goes on both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Beyond all the glitz and glamour, it takes an entire crew of talented writers, producers, and directors to really bring a movie to life, and Moviehouse captures all of that!”
Although the movie-maker portion isn't quite at the ambitious level of a Peter Molyneux joint, but the sim stuff certainly sounds solid. It's certainly been a while since we've gotten a legit movie studio management sim, and Moviehouse is on track for a late 2022 release on Steam and GOG.
