With the teaser dropping yesterday, today comes the first big slice of gameplay from SEGA's upcoming open-world Sonic game - Sonic Frontiers. Courtesy of IGN it's a story free look at Sonic running and grinding through a large open space somewhat reminiscent of Death Stranding's environments.

And to be honest it looks more like a tech demo than an actual game, with elements feeling like proof of concept stuff scattered around just to see if it all works. But hey, maybe that's just me. Check it out and see for yourself.

With Sonic looking like Sonic the rest of the art direction falls into a realistic meets sci-fi vibe that's certainly different for the franchise. Sonic Frontiers is in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
