With a three tier system that is set to include games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in addition to backwards compatible titles for PS2, and original PlayStation titles arriving as part of the premium package. Seen by many as Sony's answer to Xbox Game Pass, the new
PlayStation Plus is set to launch in June.
The existing service will remain as is, renamed to PlayStation Plus Essential, with the big change coming with PlayStation Plus Extra. Here up to 400 games for PS4 and PS5 will be offered as part of a downloadable library. Covering both first and third-party titles, Sony has confirmed that Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal will be included.
"We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed," confirms Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment. "The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences."
That said first-party titles arriving on day one ala Xbox Game Pass is not currently planned.
