As part of the release date announcement for Grand Theft Auto V's PS5 and Xbox Series X debut, Rockstar officially confirmed that thing we all knew. That Grand Theft Auto VI is in active development. Definitely cool to get the official word, also very cool to learn that it's "well underway".

Here's the statement.
With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready.

Naturally, it's been a minute since GTA V first hit the scene. Even though we've talked about the PS5 and Xbox Series X re-releases as "next-gen", we said the same thing when the game made the jump to PS4 and Xbox One from PS3 and Xbox 360. Of course Rockstar has been keeping busy since those days, developing the epic Red Dead Redemption II and continuously updating the extremely popular GTA Online.

Here's to "well underway" meaning we're getting a first-look sometime this year.
