EA and
Lucasfilm Games have announced that they are partnering on three new titles set in the
Star Wars universe, with all three being developed or overseen by
Respawn Entertainment. The first is a sequel to Respawn's hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, with the first game's director Stig Asmussen back at the helm.
Rumours are pointing to a late 2022 release for that, making it one of EA's big holiday titles. The second game in development is a new first-person shooter, with Medal of Honor veteran Peter Hirschmann announced as the game director. “Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell,” said Hirschmann. With Respawn's FPS track record, and the continued success of Apex Legends, here's hoping that it's a return to the sort of action that made the original Dark Forces a hit.
The third game is something of a surprise as it's being described as a strategy game being made in collaboration with Bit Reactor. A new studio formed by ex-XCOM veterans with the sole purpose of creating AAA-style strategy games with turn-based elements. So yeah, Star Wars meets XCOM sounds like a pretty exciting prospect.
Naturally with three Star Wars games in development, Respawn is hiring. “We are huge fans of Star Wars and we are thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years,” said Vince Zampella, group GM and founder of Respawn. “If you want to make great Star Wars games, you should come join us on our journey.”
