Last week we got word that
Microsoft was acquiring
Blizzard in a landmark deal, and today we've got confirmation that the studio is
developing a survival game set in a brand-new universe. "Blizzard is embarking on our next quest," says the announcement. "We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console."
And that's pretty much it, with the news doubling as a bit of a recruitment push with the team led by WoW veteran designer Chris Amari hiring for a range of roles. Including designers, artists, and engineers.
As per the artwork above the new IP definitely has a high-fantasy quality, something bolstered by the job listings which mention "spells" as part of combat. There's also mention of "highly creative environments" alongside more natural architecture.
According to the description, "It is a world different from any other Blizzard has created." With that it's hard to say how far along the project is, and when it might get a debut. Odds are it'll probably see the light after the Microsoft acquisition goes through sometime in 2023.
