With Harmonix noting
that it will "will work with Epic
to create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite
". Harmonix, which is known for creating games that blur the line between genuine musical interactivity and rhythm action, is now fully owned by Epic Games.
As part of the announcement Harmonix notes that the acquisition will have no effect on its existing and ongoing plans for games like Rock Band and Fuser, nor change its commitments to supporting platforms like Steam and multiple consoles.
The creating musical journeys for Fortnite stuff is interesting, as Fortnite has been home to several in-game concerts and one-off musical events in recent years. Harmonix have been working on games where music plays an integral since the days of the PlayStation 2, so leaning into that expertise and skill (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Dance Central) makes sense. Clearly Epic has big plans for the musical ambition of Fortnite.
