Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is an over-the-top (tabletop that is) spin-off to Borderlands that's due for release March 25, 2022 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. Today comes our first look at gameplay, and it's exactly what you'd expect with the Borderlands series' resident foul-mouthed teen Tiny Tina taking on the role of and RPG Dungeon Master.
Check it out.
And if you're a fan of the RPG-vibe, well, it all sounds great. Here's a rundown from Matt Cox, Creative Director at Gearbox Software.
The trailer opens with Tiny Tina welcoming you to our new fantasy world amidst the threat of the Dragon Lord. Our tyrannical villain is obsessed with ruling all of the Wonderlands, and Tiny Tina is the disorderly guide leading you through as she sometimes changes the world on the fly. We know many love Tiny Tina (and so do we), but for those who’ve never experienced her before, we’re excited to introduce you to her endearing, unpredictable nature.
The footage is packed with shots to pause and give a second look, including some of the epic settings you’ll get to play in, from majestic towns to mushroom forests, foreboding fortresses, and more. The world is a wild and slightly warped take on high fantasy, so we were able to completely let our imaginations run wild. You also catch glimpses of the Overworld about halfway through the trailer. This is, essentially, our interactive tabletop zone, which players can explore as they discover dynamic encounters and traverse between all key locations. Old school J-RPG fans, we see you.
Yeah, there's an overworld. Very cool. As is the mix of spells, guns, and old-timey weaponry. New to the series is the ability to create your own hero, RPG style, letting you mix and match skill trees to suit your own quest to take down the Dragon Lord. As the trailer made its debut as part of today's PlayStation Showcase what we see above is running on PS5 hardware in 4K. And as an extension of Borderlands 3's visuals -- it's impressive as it is, well, kind of insane.
