Uncapped Games is all about creating a great new PC RTS game. Headed by
Blizzard veteran David Kim, who was a designer on StarCraft 2 in addition to working on Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft, he's joined by two more Blizzard vets with that singular goal in mind.
"I've always wanted to take a shot at another RTS game for a very long time now, maybe close to a decade," Kim told
GamesIndustry.biz. "[This] felt like an opportunity of a lifetime. If we were going to take a stab at the next great RTS, I thought we needed the right company, the right people within our development team, and we need clearly aligned beliefs in what we're trying to do."
Kim's joined by Uncapped lead producer Jason Hughes and Uncapped lead engineer Zhongshan Zhang as the studio looks to focus on picking up the RTS mantle. Although it won't be sequel to an established franchise, Kim thinks this will be an advantage from a game design perspective. That said, the underlying philosophy is pure Blizzard - "the most action-packed PC RTS that has the lowest barrier to entry that is still impossible to master".
Based in Los Angeles, Uncapped Games is currently eight people strong with plans to grow to around 20 by the end of the year. As of now it wants to remain small and agile and get its game out there in the hands of players as soon as possible so it can shape the game over a long period.
