Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game is a new pixel-infused beat 'em up launching July 1 into the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perks program with it going free via the Microsoft Store on July 15. Based on the new Space Jam movie, the game stars LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, and Lola Bunny and is based on real-life ideas submitted by game fans.
The result, a very cool retro brawler.
Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game features the beloved Looney Tunes characters Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny and the newest member of the Tune Squad, LeBron James, as they face the Goon Squad in a wacky basketball beat ‘em up.
"We were flooded with entries from around the world, and many of them were really great," writes Sarah Bond, CVP, Game Creator Experience & Ecosystem at Xbox. "It was a tough decision. To create the final game, we blended the ideas of two gamers: our youth-competition winner, Narayan from India, and our adult-competition winner, Ricky from the United States. Xbox and Warner Bros. were energized by Ricky’s idea of a classic “beat ’em up” blended with game mechanics that Narayan had suggested. The game is inspired by the upcoming live action/animated feature film with deep reverence for the lively characters in Space Jam: A New Legacy and appreciation of the Tune Squad’s pop culture influence, all while reminiscent of classic arcade games of the 1990s."
The game has been developed by Digital Eclipse, the veteran studio with '90s cred - which will come through in the arcade-style action. And with the Space Jam: A New Legacy movie out in July, we're also getting three very cool Xbox controllers inspired by the film.
Dubbed "Tune Squad", "Goon Squad" and "Seververse" they're vibrant colourful and set to launch in July too -- for $99.99 AUD via the Microsoft Store.
